The automaker will cut a total of 14,000 jobs, with 8,000 additional positions being eliminated on top of the 6,000 posts already announced last year, Chief Executive Officer Philippe Varin said today at a press conference in Paris.

Has anyone notice lately in the past 6 months the increase in layoffs number wise? Like Best Buy, HP... We are getting 10,000, 20,000 layoffs at a clip. True they might be over 2 years but still a good chunk here and there.

So it's the french getting that cut not us.

Best Buy is closing their appliance and electronics stores because they can't compete with Amazon. They are opening new Best Buy Mobile stores all over.

I know its a French Company, still just amazed at the numbers in the US or Globally.
HP what like 2 months ago is getting rid of 27,000+. I'm I the only one that think numbers like this are a little shocking?

That's another reason we need to link the tax rate for the top 1% to the unemployment rate. If they needed to keep everyone employed to keep their tax rate low then we would see the work week reduced very quickly.

In other words less messing with employees hours ever week so that one week they work *Sun 7 to 4 *Mon off *Tues 11 to 9 *Wed 7 to 4 *Thurs off *Fri 11 to 9 *Sat 7 - 4
Yet the next week its totally different hours to work and totally different days off, it leaves no real way for most people to work in a 2nd job unless they want to do overnight stocking at a walmart for 4 - 6 hours.

If Amazon needs to be taxes, then it makes way for everyone to be taxed. That was the advantage of ordering online.
Companies save on employees, store fronts....
Amazon is also a company which sells all type of products, even made in USA. Walmart is just cheap, low price items.
Very large difference between the 2

purchase items on line. I purchase clothing at small owner owned business whenever possible but will admit to buying my jeans at Costco. Several former students of mine lost their jobs a few years ago when stores like Big Dog closed because folks were buying on line instead of coming into the store.

Luckily, I live in a large city so I have the option of not having to travel far to get food or clothing. I would prefer that people have a job and that my taxes go to help the community rather than not pay tax and get something from Amazon.
