Nevada GOP Chairman Laments That ‘Certain Groups’ Got More Time To Vote

Source: Huffington Post

“Last night, in Clark County, they kept a poll open till 10 o’clock at night so a certain group could vote,” Chairman Michael McDonald said at a rally for GOP nominee Donald Trump Saturday in Reno. “It wasn’t in an area that normally has high transition. The polls are supposed to close at 7. This was kept open till 10. Yeah, you feel free right now? Think this is a free or easy election?”

For a party in a state with a growing Hispanic population to describe that population as a “certain group” seems like an odd decision. But then, step back and think about the bigger picture: The chairman of a state party was complaining that election officials were being too flexible in allowing people to vote.

Speaking later, Trump likewise criticized the decision by election officials to keep polling locations open.

“Folks, it’s a rigged system,” he told the crowd, which responded with of cheers. “And we’re going to beat it. We’re going to beat it.”

FEAR THE PARTY THAT FEARS YOUR VOTE

The GOP are saying basically 'the way to get us elected is to prevent people
who don't vote for us from voting'

Yeah, that's democracy, fascist style

I suppose I already know the answer, but the law is that if you're in line when the poll closes, you have a right to vote. The poll will stay open until everyone in line at closing time gets to cast their ballot. During my time as an election judge, I'd go outside a little before the official closing line and if there was a line, announce that all voters currently in line would be able to vote. You have to make sure to mark who the last person in line is, but it's the law they can all vote.

"Think this is a free or easy election?”

I don't know of any 'easy' election....nor is democracy cheap, it costs us everything some time. How stupid is this guy?

18. If there was still a line at 8pm, one of the election board would get in the line at back

so we would know for sure that was the very end. And that person could monitor the line, make sure no one slipped in.

WTF does that mean outside of being a dog whistle?

I hope that these new voters in Nevada (and I expect that although many are Hispanic, others are probably Native Americans/First Peoples) vote in every election from now on so they can have more say in their state government. By having more say, they can push to have more polling locations made available where they live and/or have alternatives like mail-in voting.

In essence, they can now see the next level of suppression of their rights starting to emerge when they try to exercise their right (as provided by 4 CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENTS related to the franchise) to vote, and they have to be vigilant to what will soon be a concerted effort to negate their right to exist and have a say.

7. Tell the creep if they didn't get rid of the majority of polling places for the minorities, and

cut the days for early voting, they wouldn't have such long lines and could close earlier.

9. The ONLY way repubs cling to power is by making voting more difficult for 'certain' groups

Be it gerrymandering House districts, cutting down on the number of voting machines in predominately minority neighborhoods, purging voter rolls, restricting early voting, fighting against instant voter registration. Their version of democracy is one in which only people like them have a voice.

15. Perhaps the concern should be that there's such long lines

In the first place?

Call me crazy, but the issue isn't that poll locations are staying open late, it's that voters are being unduly inconvienanced by having to stand in long lines, and spend undue amounts of time just to exercise their constitutionally granted right to vote.

The hate displayed in Reno at yesterday's rally, according to what I've read and heard is over-the-top. Who would ever support such anti-American, anti-democratic, anti-freedom of expression & speech talk? Who!!

They have devolved into pure hatred of those around them and forgotten who we are as a people.

Vote Hillary Clinton & all downballot Democrats. #Bluewave

17. So keeping the polls open is rigging the election? That's some warped logic.

Seriously warped logic that does reveal their true issue - people of color voting bothers them. Because, of course, ANYBODY can vote at those open polls. Including their KKK, Nazi, fascist, misogynist buddies.

I doubt they'd have a problem with country clubs having polling locations open 7x24 if they could manage a way to do that.
