3 laptops stolen from Clinton campaign worker's car; 'crime of opportunity'

Source: Philadelphia Inquirer

Three laptops were stolen from the car of Hillary Clinton campaign worker in Northern Liberties on Friday night, according to police.

Police said four Clinton campaign workers left a restaurant on the 900 block of N. 2nd Street around 9:15 p.m. Friday and found that the back passenger wind ow of their 2016 Buick Enclave had been smashed. The men called police and said that three backpacks containing MacBook Pros and other items had been stolen, authorities said.

The car, with Michigan registration, had been parked on the 100 block of Brown Street, but Commissioner Richard Ross said it was not marked as a Clinton campaign vehicle.

He said police did not believe the crime was targeted because the bags were left in plain view, and that police "have no reason to believe that were in possession of any sensitive information." He did say the computers could have contained scheduling or personal information.

I mean really face-palm dumb, as it virtually invites a quick smash-and-grab theft. There are thieves in this world, kids. Don't make it easy for them. Lock the doors, lock the trunk, put things out of sight.

...their electronic devices and all the shit on those devices. Did they at least have passwords? "Find my mac?" So they can trace them? Take picture of the thieves? Shut them down and wipe them before information is stolen?

Enough of this! I don't care if we are only a few days from voting, it's time for all dem politicians and all of their staff in every capacity to get savvy and tough with encryption and protecting devices. How many times do they have to ripped off to get the message?

locked my car & my apartment--even when I was in the apartment--and his things in the car trunk if I stopped to go into a store or restaurant while out and about. They think I am paranoid.

I still do those things, but many Midwesterners I know still don't.

Another person around Hillary with a lack of awareness for what the results of their actions could lead to.

A restaurant? Really that is too inconvenient?

Laptops are not too heavy. There were four people to carry three laptops. Do the math.

Those workers were irresponsible.

running along the Delaware river and unfortunately that type of theft is common.... along with car thefts of those leaving cars running with key in ignition or (something I just heard a few days ago on the news) not running but with a key fob in the glove compartment. That area has been heavily gentrified of late with a number of "hipster" (if that is still a thing) and general millennial hang-out places (restaurants, bars, clubs). This is not a small city and sadly, you have to stay vigilant.
