(Occupy the Farm) UC Berkeley protesters return to farm uninvited
Source: SF Chron
Protesters returned to a UC Berkeley research farm Saturday morning to harvest cucumbers, eggplants and other vegetables they planted before police evicted them seven weeks ago for trespassing.
The demonstrators, who are loosely affiliated with the Occupy Wall Street movement, said they have no plans to permanently re-establish their encampment at the site, known as the Gill Tract, but hope to occasionally visit to weed, pick vegetables and distribute the food.
"I would be here every day if I could. There's so much work to be done," said Anya Kamenskaya, 25, of Oakland, one of the protest organizers. "We're not sure what happens next, but we want to keep taking care of the crops."
An Albany City Council subcommittee and staff from UC Berkeley's College of Natural Resources, which manages the land, invited about a dozen Albany residents last week to weed the protesters' garden, which had become overgrown since the May 14 raid.
