Dad from TLC’s conservative Christian ‘Willis Family’ series arrested for child rape
Source: www.rawstory.com
Dad from Toby Willis patriarch of the conservative Christian family featured on TLCs reality show The Willis Family has been arrested and charged with the rape of an underage girl.
The New York Daily News reported Saturday that Toby Willis, 46, was arrested and charged by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) for raping an underage girl 12 years ago.
TBI agents carried out a days-long investigation of the charges against Willis, who is the father of 12 children, all of whose names begin with the letter J. The Duggar-like musical family were the stars of their own reality show about traveling the country spreading the Christian gospel and performing country music. However, due to poor ratings, TLC canceled the show in April.
Willis was apprehended in Kentucky where he fled in an attempt to evade arrest. He will be extradited to Tennessees Cheatham County Jail, where he will be held without bond.TLCs conservative Christian Willis Family series arrested for child rape

Gay folk have that damn 'gay agenda'. No one is quite sure what it is, but they sure have it!

(1,134 posts)I wonder if they'll stop with these types of show.
Also, I know this has been said so many times before, but wtf happened to TLC? I remember back in the 90's I used to watch cool science stuff on it.

You would almost start to think that there's a correlation between religious fundamentalism and sexual predators.
Between the Duggars and the Willis family, TLC is becoming the "Touching Little Children" channel...

(7,604 posts)Shows like "Trauma: Life in the ER" are much less appealing to the average person than shows about families with "conservative family values." The latter are much easier to understand.

(6,384 posts)...but I'm not.
My experience being involved with churches (so its anecdotal and not statistical), the more devout and "conservative", the more they are covering up for something.
Can't tell you how many times I've heard "I can't believe <insert name(s)> was involved with <insert scandal(s) or crime(s)>. He/She/They seemed like good Christians and people"
Me: That was your first clue something was wrong.

(1,089 posts)I should've read it before writing my post below. Pretty much exactly how I feel and pretty much my exact experience except I haven't dealt with churches in a long time.

(6,384 posts)I have a relative that left their previous religion for another, of course the excuse was that the new religion was "closer to God". Knowing who this person is like and what really drives them, they changed churches because all the potential clients dried up and the new one offered a lot more. Even bragged to me all the new business that was being drummed up by church "relocating". Funny thing is, the new church gave the cold shoulder eventually, as they drove a lot of business to this person, but didn't reciprocate in "donations". Person moved on to another church and repeated the process, but this time, gave some token donations. I'm going to bet once that dries up, will move on to another.
And of course, the criminal want to earn your trust...to take advantage for whatever sick scheme they have. And church, sadly, is where people let their guard down. Particularly with people they think are "devout" and admire.
Interestingly, the Bible cautions people to not practice their piety in public and be wary of those that do. And yet people ignore that and fawn over those who do the opposite. Go figure.
SDJay
(1,089 posts)and I bet we could go on for hours about how these "Christians" act in any way but how the actual Jesus acted. What was the one time Jesus got really pissed off in the bible? When he turned over the tables of the 'money changers' aka people who were making money at the temple. Funny how I never hear the fundies talk about that passage.
SDJay
(1,089 posts)the more overtly 'religious' - and the quote is not an accident - someone is, particularly men, the more I start to wonder what deviance they are up to when the door is closed and the lights are off.
I am also going to share anecdotal data, but in my experience in business the more 'religious' - there's that quote again - someone claims to be the slimier they turned out to be in the long run. It's as if they go to church on Sunday and judge others who have done no wrong so that they can be 'forgiven' for the horrible things they do.
That's not religion. That's a fucking cop-out.
