Walker refuses to implement health law

The governor insists the law will be repealed after Republican victories in November's elections.

MADISON, Wis. -- Gov. Scott Walker pledged again Thursday not to phase in any parts of President Barack Obama's signature health care reform law ahead of November's elections even though the U.S. Supreme Court ruled it is constitutional.

Walker, a Republican, has said he holds out hope the GOP will recapture the White House and gain full control of Congress and repeal the legislation. He reiterated his stance Thursday minutes after the court released its ruling.

"While the court said it was legal, that doesn't make it right," Walker said at a news conference. "For us to put time and effort and resources into that doesn't make a lot of sense."

"Walker, who falsely calls for increased bipartisanship, is once again pursuing his extremist policies at the expense of Wisconsin families."

Everyone acts like no one ever verifies the tabulators in this state, when they actually get verified every election cycle through audits and through recounts. We had a statewide recount last year. As an observer fully aware of the potential for flipping votes, I willingly stood over the tabulators as the clerks fed the ballots through and manually counted the votes at the same time. So did observers in nearly every other county. There was not one report of a tabulator flipping votes.

Imagine that.

We've had local recounts in the county I live in every election year (spring, fall and recall) and stil, no tabulators got the tally wrong.

Imagine that.

We're in the middle of a recount in one of the state senate races now. Do you think if a tabulator had totally fucked up tabulating that the losing GOPpie candidate wouldn't be screaming bloody murder? Or the winning Dem for that matter?

Really, all the conspiracy stuff without out evidence just numbs the public to real potential threats.

because the plain truth of the matter is: repealing it will explode the deficit and that's the one thing they do not want hung around their party's neck. ACA gives tax breaks to those who already have health care coverage, so their returns will be larger. Those who don't get it will have the tax return they're already getting. They will be basically increasing their own taxes by being obstinate.

Their grandparents who now have the doughnut hole closing up, those whose up to age 26 yr old kids on their policies, those who have pre-existing conditions (and who of them doesn't, really?), those who have seriously ill children-- they're going to go back to and be happy and content with what was in place before? They're really going to go without? They're really going to welcome financial ruin at the hands of a medical condition? They're really going to toss their adult kids off their insurance? They're going to be ok with the insurance company telling them while they're seriously ill that they no longer have insurance? I highly doubt that.

So, for them to even speak of it is them saying "we're going to blow the deficit up even more than what's there now when we get control of congress and the white house" is them reading their own death sentences.

Fact is: the pressure needs to be kept on the thugs over their blatantly and obscene waste of time and taxpayer money pursuing their wet dream of making Obama a one term president. Every scheme they've put in place failed. They have the lowest approval rating in history for a sitting body in congress.

Anything grounded in fear has no hope of a good outcome.

As has been pointed out several times, states aren't required to set up exchanges; if a state chooses not to do so, the federal government will step in and set it up.

I'm not defending Walker in any way, shape or form. Wisconsin, and all states, should be going forward to set up their exchanges because its the right thing to do. But it doesn't really look good when some people here display their lack of familiarity with the ACA.

There have been several threads on DU about states refusing to establish exchanges. WHile I think that's a stupid decision on the part of those states, its not unlawful. The ACA is quite clear in making the establishment of exchanges by the states optional -- if the states choose not to do so, the federal government steps in and does it.

I find it emabarrassing that so many here appear to be so unfamiliar with the details of the ACA (even as many here decry the fact that the many of those in the general public who oppose ACA don't understand it)
