The two Ottawa police officers under investigation after the death of an Ottawa man following an arrest have been identified as Const. Daniel Montsion and Const. Dave Weir

Abdirahman Abdi, a 37-year-old with mental health issues, was taken to hospital on Sunday after what witnesses described as a violent arrest. He died on Monday.

Ontario's police watchdog, the Special Investigations Unit, is handling the investigation into Abdi's death, which could take months. An autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.

The SIU said the investigation is focusing on two police officers and that it intends to interview five witness officers.

Hundreds attend vigil for Abdirahman Abdi: 'In Ottawa, we always stand together'

It was a sombre scene at Somerset Square Park on Tuesday evening as about 500 people gathered to show their support for the family of Abdirahman Abdi, and to express their outrage at his death.

The vigil was held just steps from where the 37-year-old was killed in what Ontario’s Special Investigations Unit is calling a “confrontation” with police.

The incident Sunday morning has sparked outrage across the community, regardless of age, race, gender or creed — and that was pointed out several times Tuesday as speakers thanked the diverse array of supporters who attended the vigil.

People scrawled slogans in chalk on the street, and as the vigil grew in numbers, the throng spilled over to 55 Hilda Street, where a makeshift memorial now stands near the spot Abdi was killed.

The media would be covering it as possible terrorist attack stopped by hero police officers...And TRUMP would've already Tweeted this is all President Obama & Hillary's fault & how we're all in such great danger due to Obama allowing refugees to flood into the country without screening them! Of course, TRUMP would also complain about us not calling the incident "RADICAL ISLAMIC TERRORISM"!

I know, I'm being cynical but TRUMP basically Tweeted the exact same thing when the shooting in Munich first broke over the news & there were no details at all as to what was going on...And it turned out TRUMP was dead wrong yet no one in the media calls him out on his Man/Child antics!
