Two men try to pelt Ukraine's national hero with eggs in Odesa (video)

Nadiya Savchenko recently sparked public outcry calling for direct peace talks with Russia-backed militants in the east
On Sunday, July 24, two men tried to pelt eggs at Nadiya Savchenko, Ukrainian MP, delegate to PACE and military pilot (recently released and brought back from Russia to Ukraine), while she was addressing Ukrainians in Odesa.
According to local newspaper Dumskaya', Savchenko delivered her speech on the improvised stage, which is installed in the square where an ongoing protest against Odesa Mayor Hennady Trukhanov takes place.
Two men threw eggs at her but missed their target. They were detained by police.

"Also she said in an interview broadcast July 21 on Ukraine's Channel Five that Ukrainians must "ask for forgiveness." Savchenko believes the Donbas conflict parties have to start talking and hearing each other. Otherwise, she said, the violence that gripped the country's Donbas region since April 2014 would continue."
So, they loved her when she was in jail in Russia, but they throw eggs at her now that she's calling for peace talks?
This is the problem, there seems to be less and less room for ANY middle ground or compromises.
This woman is a Ukrainian NATIONALIST FIREBRAND, certainly NOT a RUSSIAN APOLOGIST, and even SHE can't call for talks and working for peace in eastern Ukraine.
Nice.

(35,390 posts)Large crowd of protesters against Trukhanov, mayor of Ukrainian city, Russian dual citizen, residence near Moscow, more in the Panama Papers than Poroshenko (who's name in those was prominently featured), and most defended her and a couple protested her.
"OMG, it's impossible to speak in a thoroughly fascist society, 2% are fascists--that's everybody. And among many of the most activist, out of perhaps a thousand, 2 are haters. That's non-zero, so it's all!"
Really.

I am sure that Ukraine will start peace talks with the rebels sooner or later.
It would be better all around if it were sooner.
But then the neo-nazi Azove Battalion isn't interested in peace talks, is it?

Nor is the extreme right wing Right Sector, are they?
"Fighters with the nationalist Right Sector have been implicated in the torture of prisoners in east Ukraine."

Hey, didn't you recently paint the Right Sector in glowing terms?
Why, yes, you did:
"...Biletsky is a Right Sector leader. It's anti-corruption, anti-oligarch, anti-crime."
I answered you here:

Pointing out what a right wing cesspool Right Sector really is.

(3,982 posts)And they can't jail her: It would be too controversial. She is likely one of the few that could have made that statement (asking for forgiveness) without ending up in jail, or worse.
