U.S. bans e-cigarettes from checked baggage over fire risks
Source: Reuters
The U.S. Transportation Department said Wednesday it is banning passengers and crew members from carrying e-cigarettes in checked baggage or charging the devices onboard aircraft.
Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx cited a number of recent incidents that show the devices can catch fire during transport. Passengers may continue to carry e-cigarettes for personal use in carry-on baggage or on their person, but may not use them on flights, Foxx said.

(745 posts)They all have lithium Ion batteries too and high current draws (With reported incidents of fires, too). More elite movements against the vaping community.
I don't see them removing the in-flight credit card readers that caused an incident.
I also don't see them heeding the UN warning "UN panel recommended banning [all] rechargeable lithium battery cargo from all passenger jets." - Yet they target the ecig that is hot in the news (Pun intended).
More than half of the lithium ion incident reports (4 of them) on planes are from the new Boieng Dreamliner's own battery packs.
