BUSTED: Sonny’s waitress fired for reporting sexual harassment caught the illegal firing on tape.
Source: Raw Story
A North Carolina waitress was fired after telling supervisors at her restaurant that a manager groped her, WBTV-TV reports.
Lauren Jones told the station she was a waitress at Sonnys Barbecue in Charlotte for about a month when her manager came up behind her and grabbed her butt at the end of her shift.
I immediately turned around with my left elbow, and kind of surprisingly looked at him in his face, and said What the hell do you think youre doing? she told WBTV.
Jones decided to report the incident to prevent it from happening again.

(1,859 posts)can't pay. Being a waitress I doubt she has the money to sue, otherwise.
It should also be reported to the state EEOC. I think that company can have it's business license suspended for that kind of hostile environment that refuses to keep employees safe.
It appears she does not have to retain a lawyer to take this to court. First file with the EEOC though and they may handle it.

(10,495 posts)The EEOC will investigate (not really, they, like all agencies are under-staffed and under-budgeted)! When they determine there is not enough evidence then she can request a "Right to sue" letter.
With this letter she can hire an attorney on a contingent fee contract, meaning the attorney only gets paid if there is a recovery. The attorney would get a percentage of the recovery and any case expenses the attorney paid for to develop the case. She will not need any money to pursue her case.

(5,586 posts)you can't sexually harass an employee, and you can't terminate an employee for being sexually harassed. It's against both state and federal law.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention, a spokesperson said. The issue has been resolved and everything is visible.
According to the station, viewers began slamming Sonnys online shortly after its initial report on Jones firing.
Shame on you Sonnys. I dont care if she only worked for you for 1 day! one Facebook user wrote. Your franchise owner is not only misogynistic he is also unethical and his actions are illegal.

(35,699 posts)Sonny's Barbecue should have called the police on this guy. They are not in a position to say that they do not believe the employee just because she only worked there for a month and the alleged perp worked there for years. That is nuts. She doesn't have to work there at all. If a customer says this guy grabbed her butt are they going to say they do not believe it because they know the manager better than the customer? Someone at Sonny's does not have their head screwed on straight.

(1,828 posts)the first time this guy has done this. Now that it is out in the open perhaps other employees or former employees will come out and back her story.
