Gov. Scott Walker challenged by Tom Barrett in debate on Wisconsin recall
Source: Wash. post
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), facing a recall election on June 5, came under sharp attack here Friday night from his Democratic rival, who accused the governor of creating a political civil war in the state and of seeking to become a right-wing rock star at the expense of the people he serves.
Walker, whose first term has been marked by protests and controversy, countered the attacks from Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett by saying the budgetary and collective bargaining changes he pushed through the state legislature last year were working and that the election of his Democratic opponent threatened to plunge the state back into political turmoil.
Walker and Barrett met for the first of two televised debates in advance of the June recall election and it was the challenger who took an aggressive stance from the opening statements to the end of the one-hour session.
Barrett accused Walker of deliberately seeking to blow up the state, particularly by eliminating most collective bargaining rights for public employee unions. Scott, you started this by saying that you were going to drop the bomb
and that you would use divide-and-conquer as your strategy to go after the workers, and that you would use a budget bill to tear this state apart.

FRIDAY NIGHT debates????? What?
C-SPAN televised the debates (and so did some outlets in Wisconsin I'm sure), and video is available: http://www.c-span.org/Events/Wisconsin-Governors-Recall-Election-Debate/10737430973/

(2,577 posts)How can you tell when Scott Walker is lying? His lips are moving.
It bothers me deeply that this is a close election. Hello, Wisconsin? You are 50 out of 50 in job creation under Mr. Business Governor. He has a DEFENSE FUND. What does it take for you all to get a clue???

(4,949 posts)after Barrett leveled accusations at him, for one example, stating that he just did what the Tea Party wanted him to do.
Barrett def won the debate, but does that mean anything to Tea/Repubs who love being in the political stupidity trance?? Prob not.

(53,410 posts)I think even if he manages to cheat to win he will end up with a state legislature that will hobble him. As he deserves.
But I think he's going to be handed his ass and shown the door. And I hope he's a major disappointment to his backers. I hope the Koch brothers drop him like a rock off the side of a building and ostracize him and turn him into poison to the GOP.
Yes I do. May he become the pariah of the Teabaggeratti and their leaders.
But he'll probably become another operative like Dick Armey conniving from under a rock where he belongs. They'll find a use for him.

(25,111 posts)Barrett did well against Heil Walker from what I read. Outstanding! Also, the polls are tightening. But alas, the goppers are known for stealing and cheating.

(7,404 posts)Remember the fake phone call from one of the Koch brothers and how Walkers fell all over himself in kissing his ass. Same thing with that billionaire woman. He is nothing but a pawn for the super wealthy looking to make Wisconsin a right to work State. That is working so well that Wisconsin is currently last in the nation in job creation with a negative number. Right after Walker was elected Polaris announced they were closing their Wisconsin plant and moving production to Mexico. Walker has been a disaster for the people of Wisconsin.
