Hawaii verifies Obama's birth records to Arizona

Source: San Francisco Chronicle

The state of Hawaii has verified President Barack Obama's birth records to Arizona's elections chief after a nearly three-month back and forth that Arizona officials said could have ended without the incumbent's name on its November ballot.

Joshua Wisch, special assistant to Hawaii Attorney General David Louie, told The Associated Press in an email late Tuesday that the matter is resolved after Hawaii gave Arizona the verification it was looking for.

Hawaii — which has vouched for Obama's birth in the state several times as early as October 2008 — didn't bow to the request easily. The Aloha State told Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett he had to prove he needed the records as part of normal business.

Wisch says Hawaii got what it needed, so it gave Bennett's office the verification.

George was born to American parents in the "Mormon colony" in Mexico. I don't recall anyone ever challenging George's citizenship when he was a candidate in 1968.

That it was discussed, but the teacher said George Romney was born overseas to American Parents and still made him a Natural Born American.

Who is a Naturally born American has been a problem ever since William Jennings Byran's daughter went to England before WWI, and married an Englishmen. He died in 1928, she ran for Congress in 1928 after his death.

After the war, she returned to Florida, started the procedure to become a naturalized American Citizen and ran for Congress. Under English Common Law a Woman lost her original citizenship and assumed the Citizenship of her Husband upon Marriage, thus why she started the procedure to become Naturalized, even through she had been born in the US to US Born Citizens.

Anyway, she ran for Congress and won. She ran in a then Solidly Democratic Congressional Seat. The GOP controlled the House and it is the House the decided who can sit in the House. Under the US Constitution a naturalized citizen can only be elected to the House after he has been a citizen for Seven years. She had NOT been a Naturalized Citizen for Seven years when she was elected.

Thus you had a situation where a GOP controlled House, had to rule that

1, the daughter of a three time Democratic Presidential Candidate,
2. who had been born in the US, to two US Natural Citizens
and worse
3. knowing all it would mean is another Democrat would take the seat,

was NOT a Natural US Citizen.

The GOP gave up and seated her, ruling an American Woman can NOT lose her Citizenship do to marriage.

Congress then passed the present law as to who is a Natural Citizen, and that includes anyone born to an American Parent, even if born overseas and even if born out of wedlock (i.e. illegitimate, even if the Citizen was male and the mother of the Child was NOT a Citizen).

Thus has been resolved over 80 years ago, even if Obama was born in Kenya, he is a Natural Born Citizen by US law. The same rationale was used by George Romney, that fact that one of his parents was a Natural born citizen made him a natural born citizen.

. . . not that phony piece of paper the rest of us have been using without ever knowing all our passports, social security cards and drivers licenses are invalid?

Birthers should have their credentials, such as their drivers' licences revoked, and should have to re-apply for them using the type of "long form" birth certificate they've demanded from Obama. And not a copy. The original. It shouldn't be automatic, either. The DOB should be checked against newspaper announcements. Dr and hospital names should be checked. The fonts on the form should be scrutinized to see if they had actually been developed.

Let's see if those geniuses could even prove they exist by the standards they demanded.

For the record, though, I'm glad Arizona has been forced to let Sheriff Arpaio twist in the wind.

Why doesn't somebody demand the long-form to his birth certificate?

From "USA Today"

"In Tempe, Ariz., meanwhile, Arizona State University officials have created what one professor calls a public relations mess with conflicting explanations about why Obama will not receive an honorary degree.

The school's spokeswoman, Sharon Keeler, initially said Obama — who earned his own Harvard Law School degree in 1991 — hadn't established enough of a "body of work" yet to warrant a degree.

ASU President Michael Crow says that's not the case. He says the school has had a policy since 2003 not to give honorary degrees to donors and sitting politicians, but the school is thrilled to have Obama deliver the commencement address at Sun Devil Stadium. To honor the president, Crow says, the school has named a scholarship program after him. "His election is a fantastic historical turning point," he says.

The flap about the degree was "a public relations blunder," says ASU political science professor Marilyn Dantico. "Everyone is thrilled that Barack Obama is coming to Arizona State."

Crow covered his butt with the "policy" thing. They had no intention of honoring him and everyone was NOT "thrilled" that he was coming. I live here and I was embarrassed. Of course, I've had ample opportunity to be embarrassed since moving here. I hate it here.

I went to ASU and they have always had (and still have) a policy of not giving honorary degrees to people in politics. The school's PR person may have goofed her explanation up but that does not change what the policy had been. It was a tempest in a teapot made by folks who were looking for way to be offended or in your case "embarrassed". President Obama certainly was not offended or embarrassed.

"I went to ASU and they have always had (and still have) a policy of not giving honorary degrees to people in politics. "

ASU has given honorary degrees to George Romney (1962), Barry Goldwater (1961), Sandra Day O'Connor (1984), and Bob Stump (R-AZ; 2002) while they were all active, sitting politicians. Stump was even given the degree while ASU President Michael Crow was presiding, so the excuse that it was Crow's policy not to give degrees to sitting politicians doesn't wash. They've even given an honorary degree to RAUL CASTRO.

It was a stupid decision that embarrassed ASU and Arizona made by people who should have known better. It wasn't your decision, and you're not responsible for defending it. ASU may be a great university, but that decision was an embarrassment for them and the state.

They had the policy when I went to school, I can't speak for the 60s. O'Connor was not "an active sitting politician" in 1984. She was a Justice of the Supreme Court. As your post below indicates the choice of Stump was made before Crow took over and Stump was retiring from office. This policy did not bother Obama why does it bother you? Oh I know looking for something to be outraged about.

donors or sitting politicians."

Crow had to carefully parse his words on that one, given that he has been President of ASU since 2002 and has given two honorary degrees to politicians. Bob Stump, a sitting Arizona Congressman was given an honorary degree in 2002 five months after Crow had assumed office, and he apparently raised no objection. Kim Campbell, who was the Prime Minister of Canada for five months, but was defeated in the 1993 election was given an honorary degree in 2005, but was no longer sitting.

ASU released a statement that Bob Stump doesn't count because he was 'selected' before Crow assumed office, but when TPM asked if he'd raised an objection to a sitting politician getting a degree they received no answer. Maybe it would have made more sense for him to say "the school has had a policy since 2009 not to give honorary degrees to donors or sitting politicians."

Arizona Secretary of State Ken Bennett said Tuesday night that he has received information from Hawaii that proves President Obama's American birth and satisfies Arizona's requirements for having the president on the upcoming election ballot ...

A Hawaii official sent Bennett's office verification of birth for President Obama on Tuesday, according to both Bennett and Hawaii officials.

Bennett said the issue is now resolved from his point of view. He has cancelled a planned Wednesday news conference where he was expected to discuss the issue.

"I'm happy that we got what we asked for and that's what I was expecting all along," Bennett said Tuesday night ...
