Grover Norquist: Trying To Stop Billionaires From Dodging Taxes Makes You A Nazi
Source: ThinkProgress
After Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin avoided some $67 million in taxes by renouncing his American citizenship shortly before the company made its initial public offering, Sens. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) and Bob Casey (D-PA) introduced the Ex-Patriot Act. The bill would make former citizens subject to the capital gains tax on U.S. investments and bar those who renounce citizenship for tax purposes from reentering the country.
To American for Tax Reform President Grover Norquist, Schumer and Caseys effort is akin to Nazism or South African apartheid, as The Hill reports:
I think Schumer can probably find the legislation to do this. It existed in Germany in the 1930s and Rhodesia in the 70s and in South Africa as well, said Norquist. He probably just plagiarized it and translated it from the original German.
The Nazis infamously implemented a departure tax on Jews who tried to flee Germany before World War II. Schumer is Jewish.

(47,992 posts)how to say what I'm trying to say in this thread more clearly.
It's about similarities and differences between things, more precisely, how exactly are they similar and how exactly are the different and what are the consequences of those exact similarities and exact differences upon one another, separately as similarities and separately as differences (i.e. similarities compared to similarities and differences compared to differences) and then together, similarities compared to differences - in short all of the permutations of similarities and differences in the traits of the phenomena we are talking about, which we can't know directly, but can at least infer hypothetically to some extent from the systems we are talking about.

Even the 1% that we like to hiss at, has performed valuable functions that created our lives, or at least we live our lives within their creation. Could it have been different?
Yes, I think it could have and will be done differently, no matter what either group wants.
OTOH, you may be joking with me?
Which is okay. Have a great week.

(47,992 posts)over-simplified categories that we impose, often by force of one type or another, on others. What we lose matters, even when we are "right". And even if there is a more or less immediate solution anyway, what is lost to oversimplification can very very likely affect the future.
I'm not very good at jokes. What I said earlier was a complicated way of describing what a person might do to actually get to know someone/anyone else, or an idea, or a place, or anything. Parroting oversimplified labels, acquired from here or there, for stuff is not understanding; that takes experience and the willingness to question and one of the salient traits of experience of a person/place/thing/idea or event is how it is similar:different to/from any other person/place/thing/idea or event. Those are useful questions that help us to take a solid stand when we need to against the likes of Norquist. But mostly it seems people only process differences or differences matter waaaaaaaaay more than similarities, or anything else, so their critical rhetoric looses something powerful, i.e. the similarities.
