Poll: Wis. Gov. Walker leads Dem opponent by 9 points in recall
Source: The Hill
Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker (R), whose controversial legislation restricting state workers' ability to unionize prompted mass protests, is leading his likely Democratic challenger in a recall election by nine points according to a new poll.
Walker has garnered 52 percent of likely voters, according to the We Ask America poll. Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett, the top Democratic challenger, came in with 43 percent, with some 5 percent of Wisconsin voters undecided.
The recall will be a rematch for the pair; in 2010, Walker won the general election 52 to 46 percent.
But Walker's lead shrinks among independent voters, among whom the incumbent governor holds just a three-point advantage. That's an encouraging sign for Barrett, who must make inroads among swing voters as well as rally his Democratic base.

Some folks here have been chastising the DNC for staying out of the Wisconsin Recall, but if Walker has a lead like this with only a few weeks to go, I'm not sure I'd want them to make a major investment for a race with uncertain results in a year when we'll need every available dollar ready for November. What SHOULD have happened was for the Wisconsin Democrats to resolve their candidate selection internally, without the need for a Primary only a month earlier.

rather then internally select someone ..

I'm not disputing the right of all of the candidates to run, but with only a 30-day window between the Primary and the General, spending time and money on a Primary doesn't help.

(25,111 posts)at the PPP poll which I have total respect for at this time. Something like 50-45 with gains of the independent voters. The DNC has stepped up to the plate so far as to the monetary part although they do have foot soldiers on the ground. The problem here is that Walker is blanketing the air waves with BS commericals because of all the money he has gotten.
I think in a about a week it may be tied or Barrett will be slightly ahead. With that I know the goppers will cheat and try and steal it thats why there needs to be a sizeable % for the Dem.

(94,950 posts)Not saying Barrett can't pull it off, but I'm not going to hold it against DNC for thinking long and hard about spending money here

Gee, I guess there's no point in voting or voting against Walker cuz he'll win anyway!

(843 posts)When the ballots are counted, and the right wing polls are shown to be bad theater, it will be clear which side the hearts of the voters are on.
Showing the right wing polls to be slanted will be a lesson for the polls going into the November election. Obama is going to win, and win big, over Romney even while the polls show the Republican ahead.

(23,989 posts)When Walker wins, and at this point two weeks out it's pretty hard for me to see him not pulling it off, it will be the biggest triumph for neo-conservativism this year, until November rolls around. He'll be paraded around as the poster child for union busting, he'll be on every weekly news show talking up his great victory, he'll be the drum major in the reactionary parade, and he'll have a prime talking spot at the GOP convention. And that's just the start.
The shit he and the complicit legislature will pull on the people of Wisconsin will be irreparable in my lifetime. But hell, I guess they voted for it.
Out-of-state money is flexing its muscles in Wisconsin. Everyone better sit up and pay attention, because it doesn't matter where you are; if races for state offices and ballot measures are close at all, the big money can and will swing it the rest of the way. This is the headstone on democracy's grave.

(23,500 posts)My biggest concern over the November elections is the number of states controlled by teabaggers like Walker.
By my count they control 27 states with 270 electoral votes.
Everything could hinge on the Wisconsin recall.

(23,989 posts)It only gets worse from here. Money is power, propaganda works, and they're both going to be in full swing for the foreseeable future. Liberals up our ground game, or everything we gained in the last 100 years goes straight out the window over the next 12.

(3,576 posts)We need a filibuster proof majority in the Senate and we need a strong Democratic majority in the House. They can then pass laws trumping T party states. Vote a straight Democratic ballot !

(23,989 posts)The republicons are doing all they can to prevent college students, minorities, poor, disabled, and elderly from voting through convoluted and onerous voter ID requirements. One thing anyone who lives in a "voter ID" state can do is help others to get the necessary IDs so they can go to the polls in November. I gather the Obama campaign has some outreach along these lines, but we need more. We need people helping their friends and neighbors to overcome the burden of getting such ID figured out months in advance.

(7,404 posts)Do-over elections like this one. Barrett was a pretty weak candidate in 2010 and that adds to the problem. Democrats didn't appear to choose wisely here.

(6,228 posts)There was an attempt to recall our Democratic mayor who was not very popular. While the majority wanted him gone, more than enough did not like the idea of a "do-over" election that the recall failed. I have been afraid from the start that we would see the same thing here.

(1,435 posts)over a year; that the people of Wisconsin don't know what is happening in their own state. Money can't change the facts, the state with the worst jobs creation, tax cuts for corporations at expense of education, killing equal pay for women, conspiracy to destroy union barganing. What more do they need to recall the guy bought by the Koch Bros. He may yet be charged with something, so he has a defense fund.
If people in Wisconsin vote him back in, it would be a disgrace.

(20,805 posts)...everything I have seen indicates that he is DEEPLY unpopular and will be thrown out on his ear...
News like this only fires up the (Dem) opposition base and ensures that they get out and vote....but if Walker somehow survives, Wisconsin folks are well and truly fucked...
