Person taken into custody after vehicle hits barricade at U.S. Capitol

Police are investigating after a man crashed a vehicle Friday morning into a barricade on the south side of the U.S. Capitol grounds.
The incident occurred just before 9 a.m., and the driver of the vehicle was taken into custody by U.S. Capitol Police. Authorities said the man taken into custody is Antonio Pierorazio. He was said to be the only person inside the car. Police did not immediately release any details about Pierorazio, and it was immediately known if or what he was charged with in the incident.
Just before 10 a.m., Capitol Police said the vehicle has been cleared of hazards and remains outside the secure perimeter.
D.C. Fire officials were also on the scene and some parts of New Jersey and Independence avenues near the Capitol were closed temporarily.
