Police have arrested a man after six people were wounded in a stabbing at the Gay Pride parade in Jerusalem.
A police spokesperson told the BBC that the suspect was the same man who stabbed four people at the parade in 2005.
Yishai Schlissel, an ultra-Orthodox Jew, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for that attack and was released from prison three weeks ago.
Two of the injured are in a serious condition, the ambulance service said.

(54,044 posts)This type of behavior is repulsive, just like those who use it to springboard into their own repulsive attacks.

(6,068 posts)I meant that many gay Palestinians must resent the fact that their fragile position within their own society is used as a "springboard" by those who hate Palestinians to de-legitimise the national aspirations of all Palestinian people.

(54,044 posts)Is this attack on gay Israelis an example of "pinkwashing?" If not, how is it relevant to the story of Israeli gays being assaulted?

A terrible tragedy. My heat goes out to the victims and their friends and families.

Great timing, correctional systerm. At best, he should have been home with an ankle bracelet monitor during this event.

(39,171 posts)Haredi Judaism emerged in response to the sweeping changes brought upon the Jews in the modern era: emancipation, Enlightenment and the Haskalah movement derived from it, acculturation, secularization, religious Reform in all its forms, Jewish nationalism etc.[5] In contrast to Modern Orthodox Judaism, which hastened to embrace modernity, the approach of the Haredim was to maintain a steadfast adherence to Jewish religious law by segregating itself from modern society
