Sun Tran employees authorize union leaders to call strike

Written By Sam Salzwedel

TUCSON – Sun Tran employees voted to allow union leadership to call a strike.

It does not mean they will go on strike. As union leaders negotiate a new contract, they have work stoppage as a tool. The current contract expires after Friday, July 31.

Andy Marshall works for the employees’ union, Teamsters Local 104. He is one of 8 people negotiating with Sun Tran management. He did not want to reveal specific information about demands, but he said driver safety and money are priorities.

“We have negotiations coming up next week, so it's prudent not to make any comments on it until we get to the end,” Marshall said.
