Obama urges UK to stay in European Union

Source: BBC

The UK must stay in the European Union to continue to have influence on the world stage, US President Barack Obama has told the BBC.

He said the UK's EU membership "gives us much greater confidence about the strength of the transatlantic union".

Speaking to the BBC's North America editor Jon Sopel, he said the EU "made the world safer and more prosperous".

The Europeans got themselves in a pickle by making all these agreements leading to the current structure of the EU. If the UK pulled out of the EU, that could cause other countries to do the same. The UK chose not to enter the monetary union (and personally I don't see them ever going that direction) so they could cut and run quite a bit easier than those countries that have accepted the Euro as their monetary unit. The UK needs to work with the EU and make improvements instead of threatening to leave.

They've already got one foot out the door anyway. The EU is now Germany's fiefdom.
