President Obama on Iran deal critics: They were wrong on Iraq, too

Source: Politico

As he stepped up efforts to sell the Iran nuclear deal to the American public and skeptics in Congress on Tuesday, President Barack Obama compared critics’ opposition to the agreement with support for the invasion of Iraq.

In a muscular speech to the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Pittsburgh, Obama cast critics of his diplomatic approach as the same kind of misguided warmongers who pushed for an invasion of Iraq during George W. Bush’s presidency.

“We’re hearing the echoes of some of the same policies and mindset that we’ve heard in the past,” Obama said. His loudest critics, he added, are “the same folks who were so quick to go to war in Iraq and said it would take a few months.”

The administration has presented the negotiations with Iran as a choice between peacefully preventing a nuclear Iran and going to war with the Islamic Republic, but Obama appeared to take the argument a step further to question the credibility of his opponents.

Kerry went after Netanyahu along similar lines earlier this year.

Good for Obama, telling truth about the warmongering (for other people's kids) chickenhawks.

He's always been among the more hawkish on ME issues, largely because of his constituency, and seems still to be "dithering." http://takingnote.blogs.nytimes.com/2015/07/20/when-will-chuck-schumer-weigh-in-on-iran/?_r=0

I would not be surprised to see him repeat his IWR mistake.

In many ways, Schumer resembles those GOPer chickenhawk warmongers who never served in the military but who were certainly eligible for the draft during the Vietnam War era.

he is certainly NOT among my favorite Dems.

Let us hope that he will show some true statesmanship - reflecting the international consensus on the Iran deal - instead of slavish adherence to the Netanyahu hard liners.

all they have sowed, past and present.
“I believe there’s a smarter, more responsible way,” Obama said.

“We’ve done the hard and patient work” of diplomacy, he added, “instead of chest-beating which rejects the idea of even talking to our adversaries.”

No wonder Kenyans are anxious to bestow citizenship on the "son of the soil" so he can run for President again.

Maybe they should consider Secreatary Kerry for the job as well:

“The prime minister (of Israel) as you will recall, was profoundly forward-leaning and outspoken about the importance of invading Iraq under George W. Bush, and we all know what happened with that decision,” Kerry told the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

Drop the mic!

On this issue alone, a Democrat (even hawkish Hillary) should win the White House.

and counter the fight being launched by the GOP and BibizBoyz.

Iran nuclear deal is relegated to ho-hum status here where energy is too precious and must be used on arguments over the primary.

Who cares, it's only Obama, Kerry, Moniz, and the first substantive, international effort towards world peace in modern history.

Good advice, and a reminder why I voted for him twice (even though he's sorely disappointed me sometimes).

I want peace and prosperity at home and abroad. It's more efficient than war. It's less expensive. And it doesn't leave horrendous death and destruction in its wake.

Three cheers for diplomacy. Three cheers for the Obama Administration.

They praise G. Bush for his 2 wars and most current Republicans had supported Bush. Speaker Boehner being one of those. Republicans are all about wars, mass killing of innocent people, slaughter of our troops. So why do the Ignorant voters continue to elect them to office?
