Donald Trump Heaps Insults on Lindsey Graham, Jeb Bush, Hillary Clinton, Other Foes
Source: Time
He called South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham an idiot, dismissed former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush as weak on immigration, and mocked Texas Gov. Rick Perrys glasses and Hillary Clintons hand wave.
What a stiff, what a stiff, Lindsey Graham. By the way he has registered zero in the polls, Trump said, at an appearance in Bluffton, S.C. A total lightweight. In the private sector, he couldnt get a job.
Earlier in the day, Graham called Trump a jackass. In response, Trump called Graham an idiot and held up a card that included Grahams personal phone number, then asked his supporters to call Graham. I dont know, give it a shot, he said.

Boy who let this idiot run for President?
Oh, right.....

(23,182 posts)My fondest wish is that he run as a 3rd party candidate. He'll be handing the presidency to the Dems.

The best way to handle him, what he hates the most?
Being ignored.

(5,842 posts)In any other civilized country a joke and a crank like Trump would be running on the ticket for some low-rent paranoid crack-pot fringe group.
Here in the USA he's at the top of the GOP heap. Although after this little outburst I'd bet the bank that Priebus has to be considering calling out the guys with the butterfly nets or pounding a case of scotch hoping this just some nightmare.
I'd like to think Trump's ranking is the result of a mass group of people just taking the p*ss out of the pollsters but too many polls have the same results for it to be a large-scale prank.

It has to make one wonder, and perhaps want to do a PhD dissertation on, "Is the influx of huge sums of money making people crazy?"
In my limited experience, the people that are closer to the ground know more about the world than those that flit about above the clouds.

(14,093 posts)The current Trump debacle is the natural outgrowth of 25 years of wingnut media shoving extremism into our discourse.
And with Trump, specifically, conservatives like Graham had a chance to stand up to him during birther-pa-looza, but said nothing.
Instead, Romney and the RNC latched onto him and gave him a sloppy kiss, while FOX gave him a weekly commentary gig and kept him in the debate.
Now they get to enjoy the Frankenstein's monster they created.

(45,984 posts)Next week, when the survey takers who went out to the field Saturday bring their numbers back, the story will be very different.
The Turmp 2016 campaign is going to be to presidential campaigns what the Frat Boy's illegitimate presidency was to presidencies: the.worst.ever. Trump grabbed a lot of attention from the crazies in the GOP base and that got his poll numbers up, but he also grabbed some attention from his business partners who canceled his television programs, depriving Mr. Trump of a lucrative source of revenue. Maybe he can make up for some of it by manufacturing a line of Donald Trump piñatas, which seem to be in demand these days.

(7,596 posts)On one hand, his presence is only hurting the GOP so I sort of want him to stay. On the other hand, I want him to leave because the guy is fucking ANNOYING, his act is already growing tiresome for me, and he's just a revolting person in general.
So conflicted.

On our side, it will only help Hillary if Trump keeps calling her names.
He is also hogging media space, thus preventing his rivals' message get any audience. This is making his rethug rivals try to be more outrageous than Trump which is going to turn off independents and helps our side.

(34,510 posts)if it's true that he was responding to personal insults (and apparently also McCain made a personal (as opposed to a policy or strategy) comment about him prior to Trump's insults of McCain), then to me that's a little different from an unprovoked attack.
It all depends on how professional McCain and Trump's political rivals were in their initial comments.
However, it is childish and unprofessional for Trump to take the bait. If insulted, he should be smart enough and professional enough to come up with a response that does not sink so low. Pres. Obama, for example, does a great job of this.
