Trump Hits 'Dishonest' Des Moines Register After Blistering Editorial

Source: TPM

After the Des Moines Register's editorial board on Monday called on Donald Trump to drop out of the 2016 presidential race, calling the real estate mogul a "feckless blowhard," Trump hit back with a statement attacking the paper's integrity.

"I am not at all surprised by the Des Moines Register’s sophomoric editorial," Trump said in a Tuesday statement. "The Des Moines Register has lost much circulation, advertising, and power over the last number of years. They will do anything for a headline, and this poorly written ‘non-endorsement’ got them some desperately needed ink." Trump then launched into an attack of the paper's coverage of his campaign, specifically knocking the Des Moines Register's reporting on the number of attendees at Trump events.

"On the campaign trail in Iowa, a state whose people I have truly gotten to know and love, I have been treated very badly by the Des Moines Register. They were uneven and inconsistent, but far more importantly, very dishonest. They would rarely write the facts or report what really took place," he said. "They never captured the energy of each event and it is a constant battle with them by my representatives to get an accurate count of the large crowds I draw. They know the very impressive numbers and either reduce them or don’t report them at all."

The Des Moines Register called for Trump to leave the race following his most recent inflammatory remarks suggesting that Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) is only considered a war hero because he was captured.

by suggesting that such a statement would play well at the Family Leadership Summit.

the Christian right is also under pressure from Koch money, which is indifferent rather than hostile to, Christian right social issues - almost worse to be considered irrelevant, than an enemy, as an enemy is at least 'somebody'

while the Kochs think they are irrelevant, they still take up the Koch message and spread it among unthinking and uncritical people. They do it without knowing it, and the lack of a critical review means they miss the fact that it is bad for them.

It must be hard to be regarded as irrelevant, and ignorant as well. Then again, they embrace it willingly...

thinking that Koch must be the perfect opposite of everything they believe (they are, the opposite of a LOT of the left, certainly everything economic) - but if it's not economic, the Koch's don't care - they're corporate liberatarian

The party of personal responsibility and 'grown ups', my ass.

I really hope as the result of this campaign, Mr. Trump gets the mental health care he obviously so desperately needs.

9. They should demand Jeb drop out and many of the others

The Des Moines Register's editorial board should demand Jeb drop out. His conduct was far more repugnant in Swift Boating John Kerry's service. Donald is correct that there is much dishonesty and hypocrisy going on with this papers reporting and with a large portion of the Republican Party.

Every member of Congress who gave Bush AUMF should dropout also, as it is not honoring the troops to allow them to be sent into harms way without Congress debating and deciding if a war is needed.

He is unmasking the base of the Republican Party and exposing it to the glaring light of truth. The rank and file of the Republican Party is composed of dedicated racists who hate everyone who is not a Caucasian. This especially includes African-Americans, but also to a lesser degree includes growing hatred for Hispanics and Asians.

Their most ardent desire is that the nation be composed solely of white folks; you know the kind that are the sole protectors of real America values. Especially those God rearing values shared by rural folks as opposed to those college educated liberal city folks whose minds have been poisoned by commie teachers.

His base is not going to desert him regardless of the condemnation of the Republican critics seeking the nomination. They relish his bold reckless diatribes and could care less who they alienate. At long last they have a spokesman that is unafraid to say what they believe. He is the embodiment of are their deep seated beliefs that Blacks are worthless welfare parasites, Mexicans are lazy worthless criminals and Asians schemers that can't be trusted. Anyone who doesn't realize that a substantial portion of our fellow citizens harbor deep hated toward minorities is delusional.

Trump is singing their song and they are ecstatic with joy.
