No Veto For You! Legislature Rejects Gov. LePage's 65 Botched Vetoes
Source: TPM
A standoff between Maine Gov. Paul LePage (R) and state legislators came to a head Thursday, when leaders in the statehouse refused to consider 65 pieces of legislation he attempted to return with vetoes. Democrats and Republicans alike say they consider those bills already to be law, as LePage missed the 10-day deadline to properly veto the legislation.
The offices of Maine House Speaker Mark Eves (D) and Maine Senate Majority Leader Garrett Mason (R) confirmed to TPM that the legislation had been sent to the revisor of statutes to be chaptered as law.
"We are not going to take them up. We've communicated that to the governor, but they won't be brought up today because they're already law," Jodi Quintero, Eves' spokeswoman, said.
LePage has been engaged in a long-running veto war with Democratic lawmakers, vetoing bills indiscriminately, only to have those vetoes briskly overturned by the legislators of both parties. The current dispute began last week, when the 10 days excluding Sundays that the governor typically has to veto legislation lapsed on about 20 bills.

(15,197 posts)third candidate dilutes the electorate. I am fully supportive of Independent, Green, Libertarian, etc. people running for office because it can broaden the conversation. But LePage should not be anywhere near a Governor's office. He's one sick ticket.
Which is why I'm very glad that Bernie Sanders is running as a Democrat. If he were to run as an Independent, that would guarantee that a Republican would be in the White House in January 2017. I think he understands that all too well, looking at his neighbor to the north east.
Haven't decided between Bernie and Hillary yet, BTW.
