Obama on Bill Cosby allegations: drugs and having sex without consent is rape
Source: The Guardian
If you give a woman or a man, for that matter, without his or her knowledge a drug, and then have sex with that person without consent, thats rape, Obama said.
More than 20 women have accused Cosby, 77, of sexually assaulting them. He has never been criminally charged for such crimes.
Cosby admitted in 2005 that he had obtained quaaludes with the intention of giving them to young women with whom he wanted to have sex, according to documents obtained by the Associated Press last week.
Any civilized country should have no tolerance for rape, Obama said on Wednesday.

(26,350 posts)Atleast not yet anyway, when humanity is truly civilized though rape, murder, assault, child abuse, slavery, torture, theft, war and any other crime you can think of wont happen.
Of course humanity becoming civilized probably wont ever happen but I can hope.

(14,308 posts)Did some people think it wasn't rape. Didn't realize there was a dispute over that.
My 'liberal' dad for one.

(20,249 posts)consent to sex. Even if the person voluntarily drank heavily or took a drug that caused severe impairment, they cannot give legal consent. It's still rape.

(26,350 posts)and if Cosby did that to any women then he is guilty of rape.
On the other hand what if the women consented to have sex right before consenting to taking the drug that Cosby offered or otherwise becoming impaired on their own by drinking to much?

(20,249 posts)But I have a hard time believing these women, most of whom were significantly younger, said "Sure Bill. You can fuck me, but can you give me something to relax?" There's the issue of saying yes, but there's also the issue of NOT being able to say STOP once the drug has made them unconscious.

Not that much can legally can done to Cosby even in civil court for most of the cases as the statute of limitations is long gone though I think I heard of one potential one from either 2004 or 2008ish case but without evidence (or a confession) he will probably skate on it.

(2,672 posts)the pharm companies quit making Quaaludes. First there was Rorer 714 and then Lemmon 714 Quaaludes. When did they come back. I'll Google it and find out.

(951 posts)You can tell when he is going 'off script' so to speak...
He said a lot of those things from the heart and meant it.
A really tough spot to be put in. Obviously he cannot say what he really wants to say, but you could tell he was genuine.
Dam.. that man has aged so much in the last 7 years... imagine the things he has seen and heard? You can tell it is taking it's toll.

'that's great!'
