Texas county clerk opposed to same-sex marriage resigns

Source: Reuters

A county clerk in East Texas opposed to same-sex marriage stepped down from her post on Monday, with local media reports saying she is the first clerk to resign rather than abide by a U.S. Supreme Court decision in June making gay marriage legal.

Rusk County Clerk Joyce Lewis-Kugle tendered her resignation last week and it was accepted on Monday, county officials said.

“Before taking office, I was required to take an oath to uphold the laws of this State and the United States. Due to the recent decision by the Supreme Court, the laws I swore to have now changed,” she said in the letter issued to the county judge and posted on the Internet by a local TV broadcaster.

The county will issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples, an official said, adding that so far none have applied.

Thank you for being far classier than far too many are when someone quits over personal ethics. Yes we all disagree with her but the name calling and hatred thrown her way is not much better than her offensive position.

Hate is hate.

Bunk. She picks and chooses what her "ethics" are without regard to the full text of what she claims is her guide. It isn't "personal ethics" at all. It is bigotry plain and simple.

Thank you for your post. The official who resigned is a person of her word. I admire her for that.

I had to edit the title of my post to make sure that it referred to CBGLuthier's and Paladin's remarks.

We now return to the bashing. Who or what is it going to be today?

It's the nature of the business. Whine all you want, but YOU are the one with the problem. And now no job. And no unemployment since you quit. Enjoy life on the street.

There was a story given to me as a young employee. It goes like this.

"Have you ever stuck your finger in a glass of water".

Next line

"When you pulled it out did it leave a hole".

Next line

"It proves you can be replaced."

I think I've counted at least five county clerks that have protested the decision. As I said in another thread, it's hard to keep up with all of them.

Your 15 minutes are over lady, get off the fucking stage!
