I don't know how people can live in earthquake zones and keep their sanity. The only ones I've felt were when I was in California back in the late 60s while in the Navy.

Half of those were probably in the aftermath of The Big One.
Here in Japan, people just expect that earthquakes are going to happen, and there's nothing they can do about that, so they just have to make sure that things are as earthquake-resistant as possible.

that was so strong that we felt it even though we were on a bus when it happened. Another time it shook the barracks so hard that the 8 ft florescent light fixture was swinging from wall to wall. This was in a cubical that was all of 12 ft wide and the light fixture was hanging on a three foot or so chain. As I was running, not walking mind you, down the hallway getting the hell out of there it was hard to remain upright as the floor shook so hard. Here in Northeast Oklahoma we don't have them. I don't know which is worse, tornadoes, hurricanes or earth quakes. Hell I'm about to scare myself LOL

We're so far inland that that isn't a worry for me so it never comes to mind right off.

Whatever you do please stay safe

But occasionally an earthquake that occurs under a major city can do lots of damage by itself
