A former Cincinnati-area bartender who said he heard the devil's voice telling him House Speaker John Boehner was "evil" is set to go on trial in federal court on charges he threatened to kill the Republican lawmaker.

Michael Hoyt has pleaded not guilty to a charge of threatening to kill a government official. He is scheduled for a nonjury trial in U.S. District Court in Cincinnati. Authorities have said in court documents that he threatened to kill Boehner with a gun or by poisoning his drink.

Court documents also indicate that Hoyt, of the Cincinnati suburb of Deer Park, has a history of mental illness. But Judge Timothy Black in April ruled that Hoyt was competent to stand trial, based on a report from a medical facility where Hoyt was sent for evaluation and treatment.

Hoyt's attorneys have said they plan to argue he was insane at the time of the alleged offense. He could be sentenced to up to 10 years in prison if found guilty.

Looking into this I already have multiple problems with this, particularly with what FBI says, some things irrelevant though it does point to long-term psychology manipulating co-workers who jumped him for "unknown reasons" around 2 workers and is misleading and there is a flat-out lie from the FBI regarding a blog post which is publicly available (reading it, the man strikes me as honest and the exaggerations seem to be coming from the FBI though I'm very curious exactly what Dr. Bob Buring has been telling him during their close conversations). This around the same time of the "psychotic episode" which I have had myself once in 2011 which can happen due to severe stress. In a manipulative environment one can feel confused, anxious, and frustrated. It is very brief and jumped by several for "unknown" reasons, it is pretty weak to be used to discredit him.

I find it interesting he choose a judge trial than a jury trial. If it is a bad judge or biased judge I'd take my chances with the jury but if it is an ideal judge I wouldn't go with the jury especially over "history of mental illness" but I do hope he has an excellent lawyer or legal team and afforded access to ethical & qualified experts (only prosecutors tend to use those experts - "bite mark", etc)

....Hoyt was indicted in January. A separate criminal complaint filed in November 2014 said he was fired last fall from a suburban Cincinnati country club where Boehner is a member. Authorities say Hoyt said he began hearing the devil's voice after his firing, telling him Boehner was "evil."

Hoyt was treated for a psychotic episode about two years earlier and later stopped taking prescribed medication, according to the November complaint. The complaint said Hoyt came to authorities' attention when he called 911 on Oct. 29 and told officers dispatched to his home that he had been fired from the country club where Boehner was a member and "did not have time to put something in John Boehner's drink.

Hoyt also said he had a loaded gun and was going to shoot Boehner, the documents added.

A former Cincinnati-area bartender who said he believed House Speaker John Boehner was the devil was found not guilty by reason of insanity Monday of threatening to kill the Republican lawmaker.

Federal Judge Timothy Black found Michael Hoyt not guilty of a charge of threatening to kill a U.S. official.

Authorities had accused Hoyt of threatening to kill Boehner, either with a gun or by poisoning his drink.

The judge found that Hoyt was insane at the time of the offense and has ordered him back to a federal medical facility for evaluation.
