FIFPro players' union opens doors to women’s membership

The initiatives include the opportunity for female professional players to become direct members of FIFPro alongside their male counterparts, as well as the establishment of a new female players advisory board that will aim to improve the working conditions for female professionals.
We know that most of the members of FIFPro are men and we also know the fact that women have not always had access to the best representation provided by our (union) members, FIFPro secretary-general Theo van Seggelen said at Fridays press conference in downtown Vancouver. That is why we are here. We want to change that.
We think at least in every country where womens football is being played, that they should have the minimum requirements as the men and to respect womens footballers as professionals.
According to FIFPro, an estimated 1,300 of a possible 4,500 female players are recognized as professionals, with only 26 of 58 member countries in a position to offer female players membership in their domestic players union. In order to increase this knowledge base, FIFPro will conduct a global player survey.
