An activist who long advocated for strict regulation of Montanas once-booming medical marijuana industry pleaded guilty Thursday to a federal drug charge.
Im an honest person. I plead guilty, Tom Daubert told U.S. Magistrate Jeremiah Lynch in response to a charge of conspiracy to maintain drug-involved premises.
Daubert, 59, faces a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, a $500,000 fine and three years supervised probation. Lynch set sentencing for Sept. 6.

Comrade Grumpy
(13,184 posts)Tom Daubert opened a business that was legal under Montana's medical marijuana law and that the Obama administration had signaled it was okay with. And then the Obama administration changed its mind. This guy is a political consultant, advocate, and All-American entrepreneur, not a criminal. And now he's looking at 20 years?
A federal judge just sentenced a physically and mentally ill 68-year-old man who was a business partner of Daubert's to five years in federal prison.
This is stupid and cruel. And the responsibility lies with the DEA, federal prosecutors, their boss, Attorney General Holder, and his boss, President Obama. Not the Republicans in Congress. Not Montana cops or prosecutors. The Obama administration.
This isn't a game. People's lives are being ruined.
