A source with knowledge of Hillary Clinton's plans has confirmed that she will officially announce her 2016 presidential bid on Saturday or Sunday. This will be imminently followed by campaign travel.
A spokesperson for Clinton's campaign team did not immediately respond to a request for comment from Business Insider.
Clinton has long been expected to enter the 2016 race. Polls show her well ahead of all her likely Democratic and Republican rivals.
She has been ramping up her presidential preparations including leasing office space for a headquarters in Brooklyn, New York, and hiring key staffers.............

(13,616 posts)She needs to have her camp set up and her guns blazing before Scott Walker and Jeb Bush do. All this 'waiting" is only undermining her, it's time to give the GOP a chance to take their first shots, and by that I mean start to sound foolish and walk into the machine gun fire that her camp will hopefully have ready.
Please please please, keep Mark Penn away, and please keep Bill from trying to grab the wheel.

(5,842 posts)....of course I'll vote for her. But I'd love to see Bernie Sanders and Elizabeth Warren get into the race - at the very least to challenge her on some of her more mainstream/right leaning positions. I think only by having a progressive contender (or two) can the narrative change to more progressive matters. Even if they say they're not running (Ms Warren) or have no chance of winning (Mr Sanders), I'd love to see a challenge. If for nothing else, to get the public talking about progressive issues.
I'd like to see Democrats start acting like Democrats, dammit!

And Rachel, your producer made u have Chuck Todd on your show? Let's cut these guys down to their sizes right from the start.

(7,596 posts)You could just ignore me.
I expected a more impressive field like the one we got in 2008, considering it's, once again, a wide open race (Biden may or may not run but I don't think most people are taking him very seriously as a presidential contender). Instead, we're getting the lamest field in my lifetime. I've never seen anything like it. No one in the Democratic party today seems remotely ambitious and they're all seemingly content with letting Queen Hillary waltz her way to the nomination with only token opposition. It's disgusting.
At least Martin O'Malley actually has the fucking guts to challenge her. He has my respect for that.

(94,581 posts)Last time I checked, politics (particularly for people who frequent a political blog) is something you DO. " people who run for office because they choose to. Your option, if you don't like the choices, is to encourage someone else to run, or run yourself, but in some way affect the outcome. But of course, complaining is so much easier...

(2,157 posts)No other Democrat that is currently considering running with the exception of VP Biden or ANY of the Republican Candidates Have ever received 18 million votes ever.
I applaud her courage & commitment in running for President. I hope that when Elizabeth Warren endorses her the Clinton bashing will cease.
Some on DU seem to forget who our actual opponents are in this Election, The GOP and perhaps even more dangerously the Tea Party, if you think Hillary would be a bad President, your forgetting about how bad A President Walker, President Bush, President Cruz, President Trump, President Paul and President Carson would be.
I am not implying we should all declare Hillary our Nominee, that's what the Primary will decide and that is your opportunity to have your voices heard.
However Let us not forget who the opposition really is in this election, so instead of tearing Democratic Candidates down, let's focus our attention on lifting The Democratic Party up in Senate & House & races for the Governorships across the country and tear the Republican Candidates down!

(15,369 posts)No, she doesn't espouse every single one of my views/policies/hopes/wishes. But she espouses most of them. She is also a warm, funny, intelligent, compassionate, caring and sensitive human being who is a very quick learner. She is willing to put herself out there for what is likely the most taxing job in the world, to withstand the piles and piles of RW fascist and misogynist SH** that will come her way, and to fight for those who are vulnerable.
She also has great respect among the international community, which carries a lot of weight with me in particular. There is NO Republican - announced candidate or otherwise - who is even within striking distance. None. The KKKlowns who have announced so far, their sycophants, and any of those we know who are considering a run, are at best embarrassing. At worst, they are literally insane and the non-US world knows it.
Given how outspoken Elizabeth Warren and Bernie Sanders have been lately - even more so than usual - and the rave reviews that both have been getting, I fully expect that Hillary has been paying attention. That will make her an even better candidate.
If she ultimately becomes the Dem nominee for 2016, I believe that Martin O'Malley would be a great Veep pick. He is a great person and I really miss him (after having just spent a couple months in MD, my US state of residence - MD went a bit nuts and elected a GOPer in November). If O'Malley is on the ticket, none of our best Dems in the legislative branch would have to relinquish a seat, nor would any sitting Dem governors.
Best of all, Elizabeth and Bernie can keep on doing their superlative jobs in the Senate and encouraging others to return to their true Democratic roots! If Howard Dean could return to the DNC, we could also rebuilding the 50-state networks to what they were when he left, which would lead to great benefits for progressives everywhere in the US. The DNC since Dean has squandered that legacy. What a shameful and terrible waste!

so thin? I love Bernie but I think we all know he can't win if only because he doesn't have that media charisma the country seems to demand. And Warren won't run.
Where are the nationally recognized Democratic candidates? And please don't say Kerry. He buckled under in 2000 and wouldn't fight for the election he won. And is now 15 years older and staider and stiffer than ever.
Where is our bench?

(19,240 posts)All the negative posts at DU about Clinton make it that much easier for me to support her, because if people are really that afraid of Clinton, then the only way to relieve them of their fear will be to show them that a Clinton presidency will not be scary. I expect a lot of enlightenment to come out of her administration.

(5,125 posts)... week.
And her opposition to the total elimination of the estate tax on multi-billionaires which will be introduced Wednesday. (which will, coincidentally, allow trust fund babies to inherit billions tax free and proceed to structure their finances so that their income is in the form of capital gains, resulting in a maximum total federal tax rate of 15%, a rate which is not only a fraction of the taxes paid by the vanishing middle class (income tax + self-employment or payroll tax), but less than the taxes paid by the majority of the 47% of Americans who were falsely maligned by Mitt Romney as "paying no taxes", all of whose earned income is bears a 15.3% tax rate, with 7.65% paid directly by them, and 7.65% paid "by the employer" but born ultimately by the employee in the form of lower wages.)
I will work my rear off for the Democratic candidate in 2016, whoever she or he is.
But if we are to turn back the forces of evil, our candidate needs to be willing to work his or her rear off for the vanishing middle class.
Starting by using one's influence to defeat the current attacks by the corporatists and the agents of the 1%.

(406 posts)Given Bill's NAFTA and abolishing Glass-Stegall, she'll most likely and gladly approve TPP because I don't think Obama's going to do it unless he does it in December 2016 or early January 2017...which is pointless if Hillary wins because she'll take care of it.
Really, I believe all she'll be is a Republican that throws a few bones to part of the African American community and some Silicon Valley folks needing the funds for the next big thing. Outside of that, the 99% will still be hung out to dry since Saint Ray-gun.
Christ, I wish Warren had the media and funding power to rattle the Dems out of their corporate haze.
