American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees -- the countrys largest trade union for public employees -- gave more than $65 million last year to politicians, lobbyists and activist groups, according to 2014 federal reports obtained by Watchdog.org.
AFSCME is funded by roughly 1.4 million members and mandatory fees taken from 125,255 nonmembers. Critics argue AFSCME gets its revenue from taxpayers so its donations are essentially indirect support for Democratic politicians, political activist groups and bigger government.
AFSCMEs 2014 report to the Labor Department showed $64,585,115 in Political Activities and Lobbying spending.
The union also reported more than $1 million in donations to political nonprofits as Contributions, Gifts and Grants, with $126,500 going to MSNBC host Al Sharptons National Action Network.

Just remember this is Faux's warped perspective.
And I'm one very proud retired AFSCME member tonight!!!

(24,757 posts)I hope everyone that supports a UNION, fully understands why with what happened in the corrupt Walker state (Wisconsin) the Pence state (Indiana) and the libertarian Brownback failed state (Kansas) and other right to work for less states are going after the public employee, and why the Koch people and there allies are putting up over 900 Million to get there cronies in office, just think 900+ million to get a right to work for less president.
This 65 million is nothing, when it is placed against the 900+ million the right wing republicans have or amassing and this U.S. Supreme court game and the campaign finance laws (Citizen United) that they (republicans) put forth to get to this right wing activist court, being led by a corporatist leaning right wing court (John Roberts) was and is an attack on UNIONS.
This is a end play against UNIONS and what the 50+1 majority rule (WAGNER ACT) means when it comes with a union and to have UNION representation.
This election cycle will either make this country a more represented government or it will become an outright oligarchy state

(53,661 posts)I have never been in a public union, always an AFL-CIO union, but they are the backup to the middle class and poor in doing jobs many would not think of bothering to do, like caregiving.
To hell with Rand Paul, the Koches and the GOP for trying to force national RTW laws! This is just another attack on good, hard working people.
And it is purely political.

It would probably be fine in GD.
