Your body doesn't need antioxidants.
And what "essential nutrients" is coffee "teeming with" in amounts that make any difference?
Sounds like a study commissioned by the coffee industry.

4. There Are Essential Nutrients in Coffee
Coffee is more than just black water. Many of the nutrients in the coffee beans do make it into the final drink.

A single cup of coffee contains (22):
Riboflavin (Vitamin B2): 11% of the RDA.
Pantothenic Acid (Vitamin B5): 6% of the RDA.
Manganese and Potassium: 3% of the RDA.
Magnesium and Niacin (B3): 2% of the RDA.
Although this may not seem like a big deal, most people are drinking more than one cup per day. If you drink 3-4, then these amounts quickly add up.
Bottom Line: Coffee contains several important nutrients, including Riboflavin, Pantothenic Acid, Manganese, Potassium, Magnesium and Niacin.

Funny too that none of the "studies" cited mention any of the negative health effects of large doses of caffeine.

(19,240 posts)healthy diets and a host of other factors. Association is not causality. Until they take two groups of alcoholics, double blind them, serve one group coffee and the other group something else and follow them for twenty years, we will not be able to say with any certainty that coffee prevents liver cancer. Coffee use is also associated with getting ready to go to work.

(1,245 posts)Are as familiar with science-ing ... as you and I are.
You know, given that the absolute, most basic concept of 'scientific experimentation' ... pretty much inherently involves the concept of 'controls' ...
I suppose we can only hope.
Or, I dunno ... read the actual study I guess, see if they used any sort of 'control'.
More work than I care to do. I'ma just keep drinking coffee and booze ... and hope for the best

(1,245 posts)Anyone who's been to any knows that Coffee is de-rigeur for EVERY AA meeting (well, at least it seems to be the case here in the USA, and I doubt we're alone in that regard).
There's even a designated 'coffee-maker' for every meeting ... an instance of the 'service' that the program promulgates that people in recovery ... engage in.
With this news, it happily turns out that there's recuperative benefits to going to AA that extend above and beyond mere 'sobriety' ... You're also being served a healing elixir ... and it's even FREE, if you can't afford to contribute!
