Omaha police officer who fatally shot robbery suspect has resigned

Source: Omaha World Herald

By Maggie O'Brien

The Omaha police officer who fatally shot a robbery suspect last month has resigned, the police department announced Tuesday.

The Police Department said in a press release that Chief Todd Schmaderer has accepted Officer Alvin Lugod’s resignation.

The resignation came after the department’s internal affairs resignation was completed.

“We want to thank the citizens of Omaha for their patience during the grand jury and internal affairs process,” Lt. Darci Tierney, a police spokeswoman, said in a press release.

I think that an unarmed man would not try to bluff is way out by saying he had a gun. Also, if his hands were on the fence he was trying to climb over, how could he have been a threat to the cops he was trying to run away from.

We need to get rid of the grand jury system, it is rigged in favor of the prosecution. If the prosecution believes they have enough evidence to present their case, a trial by jury should be mandatory. I cannot believe that grand jury hearings are constitutional.
