Police: No Evidence To Support UVA Gang Rape, But Case Remains Open

Source: TPM

Charlottesville, Va. police said Monday that an investigation into an alleged gang rape at a University of Virginia fraternity remains open, although they've found no evidence to support the account of the incident as it was described in a disputed Rolling Stone story.

A November article in the magazine, "A Rape on Campus," described a horrific gang rape a UVA student identified only as "Jackie" said she experienced at the school's Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house. UVA President Teresa Sullivan asked the Charlottesville Police Department to open an investigation into the alleged incident after the article was published.

"Unfortunately, we're not able to conclude to any substantive degree that an incident that is consistent with the facts contained in that article occurred at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house, or any other fraternity house for that matter," Charlottesville Police Chief Timothy Longo said in a news conference.

"That doesn't mean that something terrible didn't happen to Jackie on the evening of Sept. 28, 2012," he added. "We are just not able to gather sufficient facts to conclude what that something may have been."

1. Doesnt make sense. If she supposedly knew who the rapist was, why wouldnt there be charges?

And if her descriptions were false, then why would they leave the case open?

the police are quite clear that they are not saying the gang rape did not happen.

My take: I have no doubt this crime took place, and the victim is unable to take any more stress by prosecuting.

I was interested to read elsewhere that crimes of this level of violence (there were 7 or 9 men involved, I forget the exact number, plus object rape) can impair memory, hence the confusion about some details that people leapt on, like Mrs. Bill Cosby, to try to say it didn't happen.

There is no one in America that goes by that name.

It was her attempt to get a guy on her dorm floor to like her. Things mushroomed.

She is a mixed up kid. She had no idea it would blow up like this .

to this party didn't match anyone at UVA or the whole country, for that matter?
I think it would be kind of hard to prosecute somebody who doesn't appear to be an actual person.

7. And thats the problem. If there's no way that guy did it, then SHE should be charged

because she really harmed that guys reputation at the least. Also the cost of whatever investigation went on.
And if thats the case, this hurts every woman who really does get assaulted. Its going to make them more afraid to go to the cops. And they're already scared enough as it is.
If this didnt happen, she should be charged
