Alabama will require students to learn about evolution, climate change

Alabama is updating its science standards to require that students understand evolution and learn about climate change.
Educators say the new rules don't require that students in the Bible Belt state believe in evolution or accept the idea that climate is changing globally.
But students will be required to understand the theory of evolution starting next year. And teachers will address climate change, which wasn't a focus in the state's previous, decade-old standards.
The state school board approved the new standards unanimously Thursday.

"If prayer.is outlawed because of people being offended then a parent.has the right under 2nd amendment to hold their child out of evolution course. I personally would not.but have no.problem with parent that did."

"If you want to believe you evolved from an ape, I'm fine with you thinking that and would have a hard time arguing you didn't based on your determination to prove that you were. I and the other "thumpers" happen to believe that we were created by the one and only true God that created the world as described in Genesis 1:1.
If we cannot teach creationism in the public schools, I don't understand how evolution can be taught if it is an enlightened, parallel "theory" as you call it."
