(Republican Governor Kay) Ivey sending Alabama National Guard troops to Mexican border

Gov. Kay Ivey today announced that five members of the Alabama National Guard and a guard helicopter will be deployed to the Mexican border.

The deployment is estimated to eventually cost as much as $220 million to $252 million by the end of this year, said Christopher Sherwood, another Pentagon spokesman. Those costs cover pay and support for 3,143 troops and 12,000 flying hours....the head of the national Border Patrol union said the agents have “seen no benefit” and calls the deployments a “colossal waste of time.”

no one in any of our neighboring states seems inclined to move here.

But you can bet our Republican overseers are keepin' a watchful eye out.

So we can spare 5 to help with the Texas border.
