They'll just back another horse, a losing one, which is fine with me.

Christian Leaders Speak Out Against Trumps Devastating Budget Cuts
In June, a diverse group of Christian leaders gathered at the National Press Club on behalf of the Circle of Protection to protest potential budget cuts targeting the poor. Representing the full range of Christian traditions, the speakers spoke with prophetic urgency about Jesus' call to care for the poor, the sick, the elderly the very people the administration's budget would hurt the most.

So when people talk about the Christian Evangelical Voters,
they mean Black voters?

(13,789 posts)... an academic associated with an institution associated with Billy Graham. Wish I could remember more of the creds. Anyway, he said if you define "evangelical" the way they do at their institution, and the way a lot of theologians do, there are four basic principles. At that point we missed our turn off and I missed the principals. But, he said, lots of blacks fit the definition "evangelical Christian" when identified by purely theological ideas. But they ("evangelical" blacks) are beginning to associate the term with white conservatives and certainly don't want that label.
I, myself, am a white Lutheran and the name of our nationwide body is "The Evangelical Lutheran Church in America." But we are not theologically similar to "evangelical Christians." Which is to point out that the word has many applications.
It really was only after joining DU that I began to realize how really badly hurt Christianity has been by the co-opting of the word by mean spirited, un-Christian political groups.

(10,749 posts)Its a belief system. And they will not disavow that. So, call it what you will. But an evangelical by any other name will carry the trump/Moore stench just the same.

(25,668 posts)Hopefully evangelicals will be more careful about endorsements. There are numerous spectrums of evangelicals. There are some Methodists and I believe Missouri Synod Lutherans that are considered evangelicals. I assume these more mainstresm types do not support Moore. On the other end are the crazy Pentacostals.

(12,344 posts)Right wing evangelicals are largely white and tend to vote based on social issues. These are the people who voted for Roy Moore because of abortion and gays.
Left wing evangelicals are more swayed by economics and racial justice and are much more likely to be black. These people are the heirs to Martin Luther King, and they voted for Jones.
You don't have to agree with their religion. Just accept that they are our political allies, especially in the black community.
