(146,339 posts)are solid No votes on that tax bill. So, I'm focused on other things. I have zero influence on any Republicans in Congress, since none of them represent me, nor run for office where I live. I long ago got assurances from Franken, Klobuchar and McCollum that they'll be voting NO!

(146,339 posts)Every head of a committee is a Republican. They're not going to listen to me unless they represent me. They don't give a shit what I think at all. They might possibly listen to a prominent constituent they recognize at this point. But they aren't going to listen to anyone else who is telling them to vote no on this thing.
I don't waste my time on useless endeavors. Anyone who thinks a Republican is going to listen to anyone who is not a constituent is deluded. It isn't happening. And that's especially true of committee chairs, all of which are Republican.

(146,339 posts)I do not speak for others. I do not propose to speak for others. That's dishonest, and I don't do dishonesty.
Frankly, there's not a single Republican in Congress who will vote No based on emails. Not one. They're afraid of other things far more than that. The vote for the tax bill will be unanimous from Republicans, especially in the Senate. They've already gotten to all the ones who were considering a No vote. When Susan Collins flipped, it was all over.
I'm moving on to other things, frankly. This one is over.

***Corker (TN) 3344 Tell this TRAITOR what the bill will do to you (since he isn't running again).
Call, tell your friends and family, use social media and hammer the GOP every DAY! If you get a voice mail leave a message. The staffers DO tally them up and keep track. It literally takes 2 minutes to call one GOP rep (call both houses too). RESIST !

(14,600 posts)I look at this tax cut package and think about what a fine thing it will be for Charles Koch, the Mercers and other billionaires. They will sure be happy!
The problem is that Im middle class. I wont get much of a cut at all, and what I will ultimately lose in Social Security and Medicare, if you get your way, far exceeds that couple hundred dollars extra in my pocket from this tax cut.
Do you know what Id MUCH rather have? Id rather have a country where there's no hunger, no homelessness, and where everyone regardless of the wealth of their parents has access to quality healthcare and education.
I mean, think about that for a minute in light of best interests of the people who actually voted you into office, how good that would be for us. Such a country would do the American people SO much more good than this tax cut.
Therefore, with all due respect to your ideology of disliking the very government that employs you, and as much as you might be feeling pressure to keep those campaign donations coming in, Im formally requesting, as one of your middle-class constituents, that you instead act in my best interests. Here are three specific steps Id like you to take to get started:
1. Expand Medicare to serve Americans 55 years and older.
2. Expand Social Security to keep our parents and grandparents out of poverty.
3. Eliminate corporate tax loopholes and level them out at 20%. In other words, leave the Senate mistake concerning the AMT in place so that deductions cannot reduce the corporate burden below 20%.
Note that I had a wonderful talk with one of your DC staffers the other day concerning net neutrality, but that is for another letter.
With all due respect and sincerely,
My name and location
