The point everyone is missing is that Franken already made up his mind to resign

I have no idea what he is thinking or how he came to his conclusion, but I think he reached this decision on his own and the calls to resign have nothing to do with his decision. They are just attempts (feeble ones to be sure) to appear to do and say the right things in light of his decision so they won't look like hypocrites when they demand the Senate refuse to seat Moore after next week's election.

It's all jumbled up, some pretty faulty reasoning, but it is done. Let's just hope that a Democrat who can get elected next year is appointed and that the appointment is done quickly so that the Republicans do not have any additional advantage while the seat is empty.

meet him in a bathroom stall, though. A solid detail that he felt he could unequivocally deny.

I don't like that he didn't deny actually grabbing inappropriate parts, either, but that may or may not have been on the advice of his attorneys as they planned their next steps in case the ethics investigation went forward.

I used to work in commercial property and casualty insurance claims, not exactly major-crimes law, but a first principal, even when you saw an invited neighbor fall in a giant hole you just dug in your front walkway, was not to discuss. Rush to help the poor old gal out if you can, or pass down a chair to sit on, but don't admit, don't deny, and keep the conversation to the weather until the pros arrive.

Also, any public statements of the slightest interest would be blown up like balloons and batted around 24/7. Except that toilet stall denial, but that doesn't further the story.

I hate to see him go, and it does seem unfair and politically convenient. However it is reasonable to want to end the arguments and move on. I can also understand the point of view of wanting to keep an ethics investigation from distracting from more serious issues and next year's election.
I think he is the expert on what he should do and I trust his judgement.

focusing on the enormous betrayal of the power and wealth transfer being engineered by the right? A vast majority of Americans want the New Deal and later programs to continue, and even most of the minority on the far right who think they don't, do.

Policy makers who are the center of ethics investigations are not in the best position to do their job well or as promised. With his time consumed with gathering research for his defense and hearings that distract from important work he should be doing it's reasonable to question whether his job performance will be compromised. I trust his judgement.

Or you know....don't...except. I don't know.

I can't fucking keep up with what the rules are on here. Just days ago everyone was defending Franken until they were blue in the face and condemning anyone who might have had doubts. . Now the Democrats in the senate are jumping on him and pushing each other over to get in front of the microphone and camera to be the one to denounce him the loudest and people on here are making up excuses as to why that is suddenly o.k.

I fucking sick and tired of all of it. We're expected to fight and do everything we can and to abide by a specific set of rules, but then the powers that be in our party change those rules or break them themselves and we're supposed to not be pissed off or cheer them or bow before their sage wisdom or some fucking shit.

...and the requests (some would say demands) by certain factions and groups of people that we simply switch gears and abide by new rules depending on what their take on the situation is.

I know this place is just made up of a diverse group of flawed people (like we all are), but maybe the first step to all of this is for everyone involved to just maybe not make grand declarations as to what is and is not acceptable and whose complaints are and are not legitimate ore reasonable. Like maybe don't one day loudly accuse anyone who maybe in good faith and within reason calling for Franken to step aside of being Putin loving Republican moles, and then the next day post about how wise or reasonable it is for fellow Senate Dems to get out in front of this issue and show the country how reasonable we are.
