so-called tax reform bill and its implications to healthcare cuts, including Medicare and Medicaid, but all the other issues that we are up against.
2018 is even more critical now

(16,138 posts)all it takes is anonymous accusations and being a Dem. and you're gone. Poof.
Trump could rape a dozen children on live TV and he'd still be untouchable.

(92,480 posts)least in the interim the Governor will appoint a Democrat
he will appoint a Dem, but this has been a warning to all Dems....don't fight too hard or you will be gone.
I'm betting that the appointee will be quiet and meek and gone in 2018.
And the sad thing is that it will be our own party who gets rid of those who fight for the people. Over anonymous accusations.
Unfortunately.

(58,785 posts)there can be virtue in silence when it's a more positive contribution than speaking. Glorifying the right to speech doesn't mean we should glorify all speech for itself. We are well into the 2018 campaigns.
And, after all, turnout IS going to determine 2018. We want silence on the right on voting day, and perhaps silence before then from some on our side could also be a positive contribution to our efforts, as long as we all speak out at the polls.
Btw and fwiw, I'm never in the least tempted to say that kind of thing, even to myself. I don't believe it. Not because I'm a delusional pollyanna but because we have an excellent chance of sweeping congress and many state houses in 2018.
I am more than a little sad, and disgusted, that I place a large part of my hope on the right shooting themselves in the head, though, when a majority of the populace is actually on our side. If only the right had more weak willies than they do passionate believers in the need to defeat Democrats. That may be the only remaining "principle" for 50 million, but they're holding onto it like pit bulls.

(6,288 posts)This was a passion of Sen Franken's for many years.
Another reason to silence his voice.

These people have cheated in two of the last five presidential elections, and you think that you can beat them by making a call?

(4,268 posts)I don't. This is a major turn off for me and I know I'm not the only one.
If I donate money, sweat and time to get someone elected, I expect them to fight for my rights and benefits with the same energy I supported them.
These cowards who bow down to the gop DO NOT represent me. Go support Roy Moore you spineless.....

I'll probably feel better tomorrow, but as of today, none of these spineless politicians gets my money, time or effort.

(4,268 posts)is not that high that I have an underlying motive to voice my opinion? Interesting.
I'm sure there's trolls with thousands of posts like you have as well. I'm not one of them. If it makes you feel better I'd have a couple hundred more posts if this place hadn't gone down a few months ago and I had written down my old password.
If you're happy with the status quo of the Dem party then more power to you. Personally, I'd like to have more visionary and tough representatives. Maybe then we wouldn't have cheeto and be in our current shitty minority position. Cheers.

(637 posts)I don't do stupid. By asking (unfairly) for Frankin to resign they have taken their eye off the ball re our slim chance of defeating the tax bill. At a time when we should all be working to stop the abomination os a bill were demanding our best spokesman resign. I'm dropping out. No more expending my efforts for the Stupid Party.

(92,480 posts)general election, or the 47% who decided to sit it out, and every Democrat running for Senate in those critical swing states lost to the establishment, incumbent, republican.
As for commenting regarding the tax bill, if Franken resigns, it won't be before the tax bill comes back to the Senate for a vote
As far as for your commenting regarding dropping out, then there is no reason to pursue this dialog since you no longer consider it relevant

(51,646 posts)Call Congress about the Tax Scam and keep the pressure up...IT IS WORKING! Even the MSM is finally showing our efforts to stop this crappy rough draft from being pushed through and negotiated in the two chambers. The GOP is scared that word has gotten out that IT IS NOT OVER! Keep calling and keep hammering them until Jan 1st! CA alone can flip the bill if its GOP congressmen are flipped. CALL (202)224-3121. Here are two good links with events, actions, etc.

(2,091 posts)It won't stop with Franken.
What's worse, even if the Rs don't pull this stunt again (don't hold your breath) we have already damaged our Party's credibility.
We should have fought this thing. This was a set up. We should have the investigation. Hopefully we would find out just what was behind this set up.
Who knows? Maybe most Americans would have supported us. Or maybe not. Or maybe it would be a draw. But one thing is for sure, what the Ds in the Senate did today was abdicate to the Rs without a fight. This makes us look weak. And it makes us look guilty. If we knew we were right, we would fight harder.....
As it is, the wimps in the Senate have hurt us in the worst way imaginable.
I will never vote for any of them if they want to Wimp their way to the White House.
I will take names of the Senate Wimps. I will not forget.

(13,081 posts)If the Democratic leadership werent willing to throw their own best assets under the bus in the name of political expediency, again and again.
Everyone from sitting senators to voter registration organizations to assistant secretaries of agriculture will be sacrificed, apparently, for the cause of appeasing the same assholes who faked the accusations in the first place.
