Trump wins 2nd place in Time's "Person of the Year"-contest.

https://www.dailykos.com/stories/2017/12/6/1721618/-Time-s-person-of-the-year-is-The-Silence-Breakers-As-for-Donald-Trump-he-s-number-two

As for Donald Trump, who cares so much about being chosen that he was tweeting defensively about having turned it down weeks ago, he was runner up. So were Chinese President Xi Jinping, special counsel Robert Mueller, North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, former NFL quarterback and movement leader Colin Kaepernick, and director Patty Jenkins. But hey, Trump was the first runner up, so he can brag about being number two.

It is supposed to be for a newsmaker that made the most influence on news for the entire year. The Weinstein accusations started about 6 weeks ago or so. So for most of the year this had no influence on the news.

Susan Fowler wrote her expose on the Uber CEO in February. Taylor Swift's trial was last August. It just seems like it all happened recently because people have been dropping like flies lately.

Most people have never heard of them. This was not a big driver of the news in the full year of 2017.

I suppose if you never watched TV or hung out on the Internet, you might not have heard of them.

Anyway, I don't think that a time span is necessary to meet their criteria. The Apollo 8 astronauts didn't make their historic flight until Christmas of 1968.

than last year.

But I hope that someone at the magazine said: I'll be damned if we select him two years in a row.
