As Mueller closes in on the White House, the vice president makes himself scarce.
It is extraordinary, in retrospect, that Mike Pence wouldnt have known about Michael Flynns conversations with Sergey Kislyak or his foreign lobbying ties. As we now know, multiple members of the Trump campaign were aware that the man who would become Donald Trumps national security adviser was in communication with the Russian ambassador at a senior campaign officials behest. Yet Pence, who was in charge of Trumps White House transition teamdirecting staffing, organizing agency landing teams, and vetting administration candidateswas conveniently out of the loop. (Flynn was ostensibly fired for misleading the vice president about those contacts.) Pence went radio silent again last week, when Flynn pleaded guilty to lying to the F.B.I. about those conversations. And he was nowhere to be found in the aftermath, as Trumps legal team raced to contain the fallout after the president potentially implicated himself in obstruction of justice on Twitter.
Pences recent absenteeism is only the latest evidence of a delicate balancing act the vice president has maintained since joining the ticket last year.

Meanwhile, Pence boosters are waiting quietly in the wing. Its not a matter of when Republicans are ready to turn on Trump, one senior G.O.P. Senate aide told The Atlantic. Its about when they decide theyre ready for President Pence. - Vanity Fair

He took the Trump deal and as always it comes with a cost which is all. Trump no doubt had words with Christie about having one foot in and one foot out. Trump made him jump in with both feet head first. No doubt Pence got the same deal put in front of him back when that cover story came out about Trump's plane repair. That cover story was as bogas as The Bowling green massacre.

(70,765 posts)6. Yip, something's up with PENCE. The LEWANDOSKI book is out there with excerpts about
PENCE's wife thinking TWITLER is repulsive/immoral and TWITLER thinking the PENCEs are low class for having pets. Plus, PENCE having tried to take the top slot after the Access Hollywood tape. TWITLER don't like underlings to overthrow him.
So, this absence, very strange. Until now PENCE has been stuck to TWITLER everywhere.
