General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsSo how do you respond to a post like this on Facebook-
The headline on the post is "If Trump is not your president, then this is not your country-So start packing your bags" Then there is a picture of someone holding up a sign protesting Trump. I have seen this post before and ignored it. But this time I simply could not ignore it. So this led to the discussion below. I realize it is lengthy, but I am flabbergasted by their response. I realize I called her clueless, I later tried to patch that up with no effect. What struck me is her statement "Trump was appointed by God" I have a small business so I have to be careful with my politics, which is hard around here. I do want some feedback. The facebook discussion starts below-
(My response)Hmmm, strange viewpoint. I have to ask, is he being divisive on purpose. I personally think he is. What patriotic person would do that? I would have to say someone who is not patriotic and does not have the best interests of our country at heart. Anyone who spreads this stuff around on the internet is either clueless or hateful.
(Response of friend on Facebook)I normally don't ever get into anything political because it's almost always a waste of my breath but when someone is going to call out my mom and call her clueless and or hateful which she is neither one I will step in, and I am sorry, Trump's the div...See More
(friend #2)I totally agree with you Angie
This Sharon lady (me) must be from another planet
President Trump has done more for Our Country in 10 month s than the last 3 have done in 24 years
(me)I disagree with you, but I did not ask you to pack your bags and leave. I have seen this page before, from another person I also like very much, I see this stuff being spread from people I happen to like personally, that is why I consider it divisive. I do not blame your mother for this post I blame the person who wrote it, although it would take some research to find out where it originated from.
(friend)It's okay to disagree with others,( and it's possible to still get along if you do) but it's not okay to judge others or call them names just because their opinions don't match yours. You say you don't blame my mom, but you said Anyone who spreads this stuff, and she is someone who shared it. For myself personally, No, I don't agree with every single thing Trump does or says, but he isn't a horrible president, I don't wanna begin to imagine how hard his job must be right now, and He's just another human being like you or I, I pray for him and other leaders to do what's right. he is the president of the United States where we live and I will respect him, as I did when Obama was president, and I will say I definitely didn't agree on anything he did, but I never said he wasn't my president. It's disrespectful and honestly petty for people to keep protesting that "trump isn't my president" if you don't like him fine, not expecting everyone to like him, but grow up, stop complaining and move on and especially stop spreading hate about him, because that is what is dividing us. he is the president right now, appointed by God Himself, and it's not changing anytime soon. I think the point is we are tired of hearing people say this, and those who "threaten" to leave but do not, FYI-it's not making a difference for the good to keep saying these things, In fact it's a part of the problem not a solution
(me)Appointed by God himself? Really! What's his phone number

Yeah, I'd rant.

(6,377 posts)Trump voters are some of the most stupid people on the planet. Theres no reasoning with them.
Politico did an article a few weeks ago about a group of Trump supporters in a small midwestern town. Their lives were awful, getting worse, and they readily admitted that Trump wasnt going to make things better. But they still enthusiastically supported everything about him.
Youre just not going to change that kind of stupid.
Heres the article if anyone feels like banging their head against a wall.

(2,120 posts).... to a one, they invariably follow the same patterns:
1. Post some skewed/erroneous/offensive nonsense.
2. Jeer and scream at anyone who dares debunk it with facts, no matter how calmly or politely.
3. Keep repeating the same nonsense or adding even more nonsense, getting angrier and angrier when responded to.
4. Continuously belittle, mock, deride and insult the opponent with endless name-calling (libtard! snowflake! safe space!)
5. Make sure to weave as much whining about Obama and Hillary in as possible.
6. Utilize non-stop straw men arguments: "You liberals want to put all rich people in jail since you just can't STAND they're successful and you refuse to work!"
7. Frantically hammer on the "fake news" button.
8. Insist your facts are all "liberal bias" but theirs are 100% truth.
9. If asked for any independent verification of their claims (e.g. post links to something besides Breitbart, InfoWars, Fox, etc.) sneer: "Everyone knows it! I don't have to provide you with anything! Look it up; I'm not your secretary!"
10. Declare themselves the victor after having produced nothing but lies, name-calling, tantrums and infantile behavior.
It's pointless. The only thing you can do is reach out to the undecided, the independents, the millennials or ANYONE following along who might end up corrupted by this bullshit.

(36 posts)I agree completely with you. I have lost friendships with those who continue to believe in the Republican/Russian propagated lies and to believe their "creator" appointed the POS pResident in the WH. These evangelicals are no longer worth my breath and time anymore. Yet, Robert Muller is continuing his investigation and more of the people in the inner circle including his son in law, daughter, and sons will be indited for their participation and collusion to with Russia to "throw" the elections. The shoes will continue to fall.

(2,120 posts)... my own uncle defriended me and my Dad (his brother) on Facebook since he's a Trump supporter and he detected we don't like Trump.
How did he find out? We certainly never discussed or argued with him on the topic. He merely must have seen our posts and decided we were unworthy. We really never even posted that much directly about Trump; just commented about other people's posts and Facebook's stupid stalker feed must have shown that.
Mark my words, when the indictments reach Trump these people will never change their minds. It will all be a big liberal conspiracy. And Trump will capitalize on that. He literally has no issue with inciting his supporters to violence and if people were mowing each other down in the streets over him he would be just fine with that. I guarantee it.
When he goes, he'll go out kicking and screaming like the spoiled little asshole he is.

(23,977 posts)continuing this conversation is a waste of time for you and only gives platform fodder to Trump's hapless fanatical supporters. you won't make any inroads and you might just damage your business prospects.
suggest you wait a while, maybe see if they still support him in 6 months.

(82,849 posts)She and her family moved back to Kansas a few years ago, and she has gone back to the church of her youth. She lost her middle child to cancer a couple of years back. I realize that folks grieve in different ways, but she has drifted in her beliefs and practices, and is ultra-judgmental of just about everyone. Measured by the same measure with which she measures others, a really mean-spirited person might tell her that her son's death in his early 20s was a judgment from God, just as she sees divine judgment in the misfortunes that befall others. But I'd like to think I'm not mean-spirited. At least, not that mean-spirited.
What I finally decided to do was to take this friend off all my feeds. Occasionally, another FB friend will like or respond to something she posts and I'll see it then, but just about all her stuff passes by me unnoticed. You might want to try it with your friend from childhood. Some day her brain and heart may kick back on, and when that happens, you might gain back a friend. In the meantime, let her and her demented opinions go.

I don't follow any news shows. I do follow PBO and three TV shows. My relatives who live back east have a closed group for sharing pics
I have 5 non relative friends and that feels like too many. I absolutely hate FB's friend notification function. HATE IT!
I'm thinking of closing my FB account but I'm hesitating bc of my closed fam pic group.

My southern family bought into Trump's spin that the kneeling was disrespectful to soldiers, and long story short, I nuked my uncle, aunt, and two cousins from my feed, and their friends nuked me from theirs.
If we start shooting at each other in this country, I guarantee you Thanksgiving dinners will no longer be stressful.
