Van Jones said something interesting the other day. He said he went around the country talking to conservatives. We all know why they vote for conservatives socially but economically is quite revealing. They are so hung up on the “pulling yourself up by your boot straps” logic that they hang their principles there. They say they don’t want government assistance and don’t like that the government will go into rich people’s pockets and give it to them. They see raising taxes as stealing from the rich. One of them literally said they would rather see their family go hungry and learn a lesson about hard work rather than get on government assistance. That is amazing to me!!
Republicans and libertarians have brainwashed them so much that they see any government safety net as weak, even in dire situations. That’s why they don’t care about this tax bill.

The unemployed tRump cult around here loves their snap cards, Medicaid, and Section 8 housing. The ones who would say that they don't want such things are better off financially, but take unemployment insurance and earned income credit if they can.

I have a wealthy relative or two who likes Trump. They’re getting exactly what they wanted - a big tax cut. They’ll even tell you they’re happy the tax bill increases the deficit because that’s the only way you can force spending cuts to occur.

Everyone else I know who still likes Trump is either an open bigot or a conspiracy-minded lunatic who thinks Pizzagate is a matter of social concern.
