I just heard it on the news and I'm SO excited!
Rep. Gutierrez is a Rock Star in the Hispanic community. A real champion. I can see him getting 90% of the Hispanic vote, maybe more.
President Luis Gutierrez...sounds wonderful!

(12,159 posts)Few of us have heard of Luis Gutierrez. Me for one and my name is Luis so I pay immediate attention to any with that name.
So who is he?
What has he done?
Why should we vote for him?
I know I can do a search on him but I think it would be better if you added this by editing your post- please include links as well.
Thanks from all of us who are looking for light in this darkness.

(9,967 posts)have heard of Luis Gutierrez. But OK, here it goes:
He is a Democrat. Has always been a Democrat.
He is a champion for immigrant's rights and immigration reform. For him, it's not just words, he takes action, having been arrested several times for his cause.
He is pro-gun control, and has an F rating from the NRA.
He has sponsored legislation to protect workers rights, including:
The Raise the Wage Act (HR 2150) to increase the minimum wage and abolish the outdated tipped minimum wage;
theWorkplace Action for a Growing Economy Act (HR 3514) to strengthen workers ability to collectively bargain for higher wages and better working conditions; an
the Payroll Fraud Prevention Act (HR (3427) to end the misclassification of employees as independent contractors which leads to the erosion of wages and benefits.
TheHealthy Families Act (HR 932) guarantees workers the right to earn up to seven paid sick days to care for themselves or a loved one who is sick;
the Family and Medical Insurance Leave Act (HR 1439) ensures that workers can take paid family and medical leave when they need it; the Schedules that Work Act (HR 3071)provides flexible, predictable and stable work schedules
theStrong Start Act (HR 2411) gives workers access to high-quality early-learning opportunities, and more affordable, stable child care.
the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act (HR 2654) which ensures that women can get job accommodations when they need them to continue working safely during pregnancy;
Equality Act (HR 3185) which makes unmistakably clear that workplace discrimination against LGBT individuals is illegal.
More on him:
Dean of the Illinois Delegation in the U.S. House of Representatives;
Chairman, Immigration Task Force of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus;
Judiciary Committee | Immigration and Border Security Subcommittee;
Judiciary Committee | Crime, Terrorism, and Homeland Security Subcommittee;
Financial Services Committee (Leave of Absence during 113th and 114th Congresses)
Of course, there is much more, but I think you can take it from here. HTH

(10,500 posts)I think that is a good thing. We need a more diverse pool of candidates then we have traditionally had.
We will also likely have three African-American candidates: Kamala Harris, Eric Holder and Corey Booker. And if Biden doesn't run then I think Deval Patrick will. Also, Kamala Harris is part Asian.
Finally, I expect a decent number of women to run: Kirsten Gillibrand, Amy Klobuchar, Kethleen Sebelius and Elizabeth Warren.
