Trump draws embarrassingly tiny crowd for National Christmas Tree lighting

As Donald Trump nears the end of his first year in office, it is clear that nothing about the man has changed since the election.

His holiday party was marred by the awkwardness of his petty exclusion of prominent black and LGBT journalists.

And then, at the National Tree lighting ceremony, he was further humiliated by hundreds of empty chairs:

When Trump looks up from the podium he sees an ocean of people. He sees an endless sea of supporters, like prairie grass waving back and forth, and they're all shouting, "Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump". He sees millions of MAGA caps stacked upon one another, swaying in a gentle breeze that whispers, "Trump, Trump, Trump, Trump". Trump believes his delusions, because if he didn't Trump's mind would snap like his dear old Mother Mary's garter belt.

Donald Trump lives in an alternate reality, with absolutely no contact with actual reality. He's a stupid, STUPID entity, and that stupidity makes him dangerous. Extremely dangerous.

would be excited and have a Christmas memory of helping light the national tree plus you would think he would want to appear with his family but why let his kid have a share of the spot light I guess. Obama had let his daughters on stage light the trees when they were his son's age

but the Obama ceremony picture seems to have been taken much closer to the stage than the Trump one. I think if both pics had been shot from the same perspective, it would have looked like Trump had a big crowd, too, because the people who did attend were all seated upfront.

One of the Hardball roundtable reporters said there were lots of empty seats at this year's tree ceremony and the picture confirms it.

the fake "love" for everyone and "holiday cheer" are gone, the jig is up. our country is built on lies and coverups, out right denials of all so called "christian" values are the standard. hatred and vilification fill our stockings instead of toys and candy.

i'm real glad no one showed up for this "celebration" of the season Jesus set up for capitalists as the way to go. we spend half of the year glad it's gone and the other half preparing for it. why? i've hated the entire holiday season for the last 30 years. the consumption and forced need to own the latest piece of crap put out by an electronics company is not christmas.

Jesus would be ashamed and seriously kicking some ass about the sad state of his yearly "birthday" party. at least, i know i would be, if the savior of the world was reduced to being celebrated by hypocrites and tasteless assholes with giant blowup crap in their yard.

really not in the mood this year. i want to yell "you're not paying attention" to every idiot who utters "merry christmas".

was a magical time, but it is still a time of joy for us. I won't allow Trump to deprive me of joy...I am going to do my best to make him very unhappy by defeating his GOP minions in 18 and 20. In the meantime, I will enjoy my life.

Like you said, the fake love and good cheer disappears as soon as at "magically" appears each..........Labor Day? I was seeing "Holiday" stuff in stores right after Labor Day this year. That's ridiculous! There was a time when the "Holiday" junk didn't appear until after Thanksgiving. Then it was pushed up earlier, then still earlier, then Halloween, and now......Labor Day?

The "Holiday" is for children, as far as I'm concerned. After you reach adulthood it just becomes more commercial each year, and the joy the "Holiday" once brought you now brings dread and despair. It's no wonder the "Holiday" sees more suicides than any other time of year. False expectations, along with an approaching new year - when you can take stock of your existence - pushes some people right over the edge.

If it wasn't for my grand-children I'd treat it just like the other 364 days of the year.

Bah, Humbug!

"Once again, his is smaller than Obama's"

But the last line takes it home....nails it!

"Wherever Trump goes, the tiny crowds at his events serve as a reminder to him that, despite his office, he cannot command the respect and admiration he wanted. And he never will."

which is why he ran for Pres...and why he's going King George these days....the need for glory/admiration...but no character to invoke it.

in the history of Christmas tree lighting crowds. It was so big Don's cult members were stacked like cordwood around the tree and you could barely see the lights. Then they all uttered "Christmas, Christmas, Christmas" 500 times in a MAGA chant against the demon Commie liberal elites across the street feeding the homeless. Fake news. Fake, fake, fake.

Now, not so much.

Some years, we'd go see the tree. They put a smaller one up for each state and territory, decorated with ornaments from kids in each state. Sometimes, they'd have reindeer and a bonfire. Nice place to walk around. We pour hot toddies into a travel coffee mug and take in the sights.
