(25,816 posts)That whole area from Chilili to Tajique and down through Mountainair to
Gran Quivira is great. My mom's ashes are in White Oaks, outside Carrizozo.
A beautiful area.
P.S. Congrats on the store.

(8,764 posts)I'm about 12 miles outside of Mountainair with a great view of the Manzano Mts. It's been about 10 yrs since i was to White Oaks, but I remember the old school house.

(58,785 posts)of those people whose initiative kicked this off. Well, living in that beautiful area, now you practically have it all.
But your story makes me curious. I know friends in Atlanta use Costco 2-day delivery, supposedly available nationwide. Would that kind of thing really be available to remote communities like yours? To expand your choices for instance?

(8,764 posts)The closest Costco is 90 miles away in Albuquerque. I actually do quite a bit of shopping esp. for pet food on Amazon.

(58,785 posts)when I shop carefully, very competitive prices are real boons. LOVE, Amazon. Guiltily, perhaps, but love what it means for us anyway.
As a child when I was living with my older sister and her family, every 3 months or so we'd drive down out of the Yosemite area mountains to stock up supplies in Mariposa, itself not exactly a metropolis, me with their small children in the back of an empty pickup on the way down, surrounded by bags and boxes on the way back.
Now Costco is advertising nationwide 2-day delivery in the contiguous states for nonperishable goods, perishable 1-day in cities only. And I imagine other food sources are as well. Expect the USPS is above all what makes this possible. When the other carriers can't compete economically, they sub their own business to Ben Franklin's USPS.
Kinda different, and as we get older I'm looking forward to seeing this develop more. But of course nothing's as good as having your own local market, so congrats again.
