Frances much-loved croissant au beurre has run up against the forces of global markets.
Finding butter for the breakfast staple has become a challenge across France. Soaring global demand and falling supplies have boosted butter prices, and with French supermarkets unwilling to pay more for the dairy product, producers are taking their wares across the border. That has left the French, the worlds biggest per-capita consumers of butter, short of a key ingredient for their sauces and tarts.

(20,271 posts)interviewed. Showed bunches of cows coming off freighter ships delivered to Doha, I think, from Calif., Wisconsin and PA. They're making agricultural land out of the desert. 🐮🐮🐮

Croissants and even Pain Chocolate were available in great quantities!

Was not inexpensive for that time either.
My mom asked, "Was it worth it?" I replied, "Every penny!" We got married only a couple years before and we're not of wealth.
Glad we went then. Life takes you crazy places.
