Is that who is next?
Yes, I just looked
you dont have to take ryan out if you win the house, of course.
But do republican voters want to appease treason so they can get tax cuts for billionaires who look down on them, how badly? I know, insane.

(43,085 posts)1. For that to play out, Trump and Pence would have to be impeached and removed simultaneously. That's unlikely in and of itself.
2. If it's after the 2018 elections and the Democrats have taken the House, you'd have to expect that the Democrats would have to have a supermajority in the Senate that would be willing to take out the President and Vice President in one fell swoop. Republicans might be happy to cut bait with Trump, but they'll hold the line at Pence. They're not just going to cede the White House to the Democrats. And you'll need 66 Senators to remove, and that means there will have to be Republicans in there.
3. The political blowback would be harsh on the Democrats if somehow they got 66 for both Trump and Pence simultaneously. It will be framed as a de facto coup for the Democrats.
The sad fact of the matter is that we're almost certainly going to be stuck with President Pence for some period of time before 2020. What makes things better is that he's instantly going to be tainted and damaged goods and a huge liability if he runs in 2020.
The Chain of Succession is designed not for these types of manuervings, but rather for some sort of catastrophic event along the lines of the premise of the show Designated Survivor.

(6,039 posts)in making bold demands
If Russia had a part in keeping Clinton out and installing Trump and we are not rising up and making demands that things be set right-well the problem is not in our stars but in ourselves that we are underlings. (sorry Shakespeare).
Democrat in congress are always ready to play ball with the opposition. It is their strength as well as their weakness.
I remember years ago during some issue (can't remember the particular horror story) when Dems threatened something for justice and Orrin Hatch got on tv and smirked they the Dems weren't going to do anything-and he was right.
I remember Sen Hollings making stirring speeches about the bad things that were going to happen to Republicans due to the Enron scandal-well not too much bad happened.
Dems did finally manage to get rid of Tom Delay-so I must give credit there.
What I have concluded is that demand for justice have to emanate from the people and then we have to let the representative part of democracy figure out the political wheeling and dealing which may be necessary to get us there.
I don't think Libertarians, Republicans, Green Partiers or even Independents are going to do it. so that leaves us . as one of us I don't want to be a hand wringing, whiner, who concludes that there is "nothing we can do, oops they won again, we're screwed, we're doomed, this won't let us, that won't let us.......it's gotten old.

(51,974 posts)there is no way in hades any democrat is becoming president via a forced removal of donnie and pence.
one simple reason is that we need a couple dozen republican senators to remove after impeachment, and there's no way they would time the multiple removals so that a democrat would become president.
if (and it's a big, big if) they actually agreed to kick out donnie *and* pence, they'd simple do them at least an hour apart (more likely far more than that) so as to allow for the appointment and approval of a new (republican) vice-president, who then become president after the other one was removed.
there is *no way* republicans are handing the white house over to a democrat voluntarily!

(42,383 posts)And it is ridiculous since it assumes that enough Repubs would vote to simultaneously impeach and convict Trump and Pence to create a vacancy for Pelosi to fill.
Nonsense.

(6,039 posts)things we don't expect. How deep is the rot?
I can't speak to the particular scenarios above but our main concern should be for justice. that is our role-not the particulars on how it comes about.
So what would justice look like in this situation?

(21,921 posts)Players moved their pieces around the board all the while constructing a Rube Goldberg-esque mousetrap consisting of gears, rolling balls and descending cages. Respectably, that's not unlike your suggestion, jodymarie aimee.
This scenario is far too complicated to actually work.
To begin, the scenario you suggest is missing the first piece: Remove Trump. That's going to be very difficult.
Further, if Pence and Ryan are removed, the next in line is Senator Orrin Hatch followed by Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. And so on.
For Representative Pelosi to attain a position in the line of succession would require the timing and accuracy of a legendary Swiss watch. The midterm elections are still more than a year away. The winners of those elections won't be in office until January 2019. That would be the earliest that Representative Pelosi could become House Majority Leader. It seems like too much of a stretch.
