He said HE WAS THERE AND HE HEARD the congresswoman brag about getting the money for the building being dedicated. And, this owasn't a case of simply using the wrong word. He went on at great length and with great specificity about what "stunned" him.
The man lied!

He lied just to smear this congresswoman.

(10,279 posts)His plan requires Gen. Kelly not to apologize. That allows Trump in campaign mode to say "Kelly would have apologized if he was wrong -- he's a Marine general -- those guys don't lie. So, he told the truth and those women lied." And, that will be good enough to hold his base.

I don't think he remembered it accurately. I believe the man is SO racist, SO sexist, that in his mind he focused on her one comment when she gave herself credit merely for going to John Boehner, got incensed about that and didn't even hear -- or at least didn't remember all the rest of what she said.
Her speech was remarkable, IMO. Full of acknowledgment and praise for all the right people.
But she is BLACK, and a WOMAN (who clearly doesn't adhere to being all sacred and stuff), daring to mention the step she took in talking to Boehner -- and it incensed him, and that's all he remembered, and inflated it in his mind and memory to all of what he said.
ETA: She does, however, have a perfectly horrible voice that grates on MY nerves. How jarring it must have been to his manly ears (thus exacerbating the whole racist / sexist problem).

(14,854 posts)He should have refreshed his shitty memory before he stood in front of TV cameras acting all indignant and appalled by something that never even happened. Fuck him.

(82,849 posts)Kelly should, at the very least as any decent human being would do, say that he misremembered and apologize to the person he defamed. That he hasn't done so tells me that this wasn't a mistake, but a deliberate lie.

(5,210 posts)I honestly do believe it wasn't a lie going in (and as I said elsewhere, the racism/sexism make it worse in my mind) -- but yeah, coming out. You bet.

(6,810 posts)He may have "known" what he heard, but when video clearly shows what he had "known" was said was definitely NOT said, doubling-down on the alternative fact unequivocally transitions from misremembered words to overt lie.
