Romney is making the claim that Pres Obama wants Americans to be ashamed of success.
Ok..... What is success?
suc·cess? ?/səkˈsɛs/ Show Spelled[suhk-ses] Show IPA(Dictionary.com)
noun
1. the favorable or prosperous termination of attempts or endeavors.
2. the attainment of wealth, position, honors, or the like.
So...Why is Romney acting like he is embarrassed to show Americans the records of his prosperous career?
He is angry at Pres. Obama for asking him to share with America just how successful he's been .
Aren't you the one saying success is something to be ashamed of Mitt?

(15,189 posts)Like Obama is the ONLY one who wants to see his taxes. Rmoney will yell shit about freedom, success, distortion, and apologies.
No tax disclosure will be the GOP norm after this.

(13,669 posts)I say Romney is the one who is demonstrating "shame", and demonstrating that by refusing to show America just "how" successful he really is.
Maybe we wouldn't like him so much if we knew?

(25,035 posts)then everyone else at least deserves fair warning, is all.
The people also deserve to know how you measure success. I know in my book no amount of money can save you from being an utter and contemptible failure.

(13,669 posts)some of the most 'successful' people I've known have little monetary wealth to show for their efforts. But they are rich in so many other ways. To people who have a capitalistic mentality they'd be seen as failures- not by my measure.
Romney continually equates success with money. Show us how successful you are Mr.money.

(21,925 posts)He says he has a friend with a similar background to Romney's who suggested Romney has a lot more money than we think. He said Romney's advisers may feel America isn't ready to elect a billionaire, as might be revealed in the returns.

George died in 1995, though, and the Republicans are saving their cloning efforts for Reagan.

(13,669 posts)I've been thinking about this a lot.
Business people are supposed to focus on ...'the bottom line'. Their concern and allegiance isn't really to the people who work for them, the people who are most vulnerable to the decisions that the CEO's make- but to the shareholders and owners of the Co. People are expendable. They are really just a commodity. A GOOD President should be far more concerned with the 'company' - The people who make up the 'business'
In the business world, you can replace all your employees, you can pick and choose who you want to keep and send those who don't live up to your standard packing. You get to pick and choose.
A President shouldn't be able to do that. A President has to make sure that there is a place for everyone in the company, and ensure that everyone is able to exist even if that quality of their existence isn't equal.
Running America shouldn't be all about money and military might- it shouldn't be about imperialism either. It should really be about equality and ensuring that every citizen has a place in and responsibility to the common good. A more perfect union, isn't so much judged on it's GDP imo, but on the quality of it's people and the value it- as a society -brings to the world as a whole.
(sorry for the rant, your post made me try to put thoughts in words)

(1,448 posts)served as president and died as the richest businessman in USA. If we could find another "George Washington", it doesn't matter so much as what is in wallet as what he sees as a vision for USA. And, FDR added a group of CEO advisors ($1 per year men) to direct components of industry in optimizing production for the war effort. What came out of that was a new way to view corporate management, which was rejected by American businessmen but adopted by the Japanese after WWII. That is, focus on customer satisfaction ("quality" and profits take care of themselves. That is how HP became a powerhouse, before it gave it up under Carley. Anyway, managing business for customer satisfaction has a very close parallel with managing business for customer satisfaction.

(1,448 posts)has a better background to perform the duties of the presidency than a specialist, such as a lawyer, banker, educator, farmer, physician, scientist, accountant, social worker, and specialists of other departmental services of our government. The CEO has experience in coordinating activities and allocating and controlling funds to achieve the success of the corporation. When the vision of the CEO is to provide "customer satisfaction", the management of the company and government is similar. Pres. Obama is a specialist, and IMO, does not have an ideal background. Gov. rMoney is a businessman, but not of the "customer satisfaction" type. CS Management excludes screwing your employees and subsidiary shareholders. RMoney is more like a banker, sub-type loan shark. He has the worst experience for governing.

(13,669 posts)not sure that I agree with your perspective about a CEO being the best choice for the office, even with the "customer satisfaction" caviat, but I do agree that my broad-brush characterization of CEO's as completely unconcerned with the welfare of people and being solely focused on the monetary end of things was unfair.
Thank you . I appreciate your taking the time to help me understand your point of view.

(13,669 posts)that Pres. Obama was actually making.
I know that you recognize a lot of people help you in a business. Perhaps the bank, the investors. There is no question your mom and dad, your school teachers. The people who provide roads, the fire, the police. A lot of people help. But let me ask you this. Did you build your business? If you did, raise your hand. Take that, Mr. President! This is whats happening in this country.
